I recently applied for a second Wells Fargo Choice Privileges Select Mastercard and was denied - without an inquiry, so at least there's that - for the following reason (screenshot at bottom):
"You Have a Pre-Existing Account
You can only be a primary cardholder of one Choice Privileges Mastercard at a time. Our records indicate you are already a primary cardholder."
I did not think this would be the case, as this was what I found in their credit terms:
"Eligibility for introductory bonus rewards offer
You may not be eligible for an introductory bonus rewards offer if you opened a Choice Privileges Mastercard Credit Card or a Choice Privileges Select Mastercard Credit Card within the last 15 months from the date of this application and you received an introductory bonus rewards offer - even if that account is closed and has a $0 balance."
I guess that doesn't really spell out that one can or cannot hold multiple, so I tried searching - through the card terms, through the terms of the Choice program itself, on Google to see if I could find forum / reddit posts, and didn't see anything.
If this is common knowledge then my apologies for bothering with a post, but it doesn't appear to be so I wanted to share. I personally opened the Choice Privileges Select on the day it was released and am 16 months into ownership, and given the 15 month sign-up bonus eligibility, I'm likely one of the first to have tried applying for a second. Hope this helps someone!
With that language, it sounds like you're not only be eligible for a second card, but also eligible for the SUB. Maybe a recon is in order? At least you didn't waste an HP!
Curious why you want 2? For the intro bonus? For the annual night?
For me, I assume you can only hold 1 card for any given credit card, unless it's been clearly established that others have been successful in getting 2. Even for the rare cards that do allow 2, that's usually accomplished through PCing, not direct apping.

Mix of anniversary points and elevated sign-up bonus, plus good timing. Since most of the benefits of the first would not stack, a second Choice Privileges Select would essentially add 30k points per year for another $95 annual fee. I currently value Choice points at .98cpp which would put the anniversary bonus at $294, a huge gain for me personally for paying the annual fee and keeping the card active. We have been redeeming Choice points faster than we can earn them, so unless that changed this would be a gain.
The sign-up bonus is also elevated right now at 100k / 90k (100k link can be found at uscreditcardguide or others, else 90k) without the first annual fee waived. It had been 60k without the first annual fee waived for a while, so this is the best offer since the original 90k with the first annual fee waived.
Lastly, I was in a good spot being 0/6 and 2/12 new accounts, plus the anniversary points would be spaced out, so it was overall good timing.

I read through a lot of the terms and didn't see anything excluding multiple - seems like many/most issuers spell it out. I didn't read every line, but I did searches for terms like one, limit, primary, etc. I also did a few Google searches to see if there were any reddit / forum posts about multiple cards.
The wording of the eligibility for the sign-up bonus certainly doesn't directly say one can hold multiple, really just spells out eligibility for the bonus, but that combined with not seeing anything about a one card limit in the terms + no reddit / forum posts and I decided to go for it - sometimes one has to be the dp one wants to see. Was definitely worth a shot, though I say that with the knowledge that they didn't hard pull me
