Hi there.
I was enrolled in the Cap 1 Credit Steps program. Got my card in April I believe.
Never late, never over the limit. Went from 300 to 500 in Oct, I believe.
I inquired to Cap 1 about when the next step would be and this is there reply..
Thanks for contacting us about your Capital One account.
***If you successfully complete the Credit Steps program, a credit limit
increase will appear by:
the 5th billing statement if you do not miss a required step
the 7th billing statement if you miss only one required step **
I then stated I didnt miss any steps and is $500 the most Ill receive on this card and received a vague response about how
credit increases are given depending on payment history and so on. No new info on the Credit Steps program.
My 8th statement was just printed and no increase.
On the other hand...Received a Orchard Bank card this past year, CL of $300, last week, log in and see it's at $500 now...so there is good news.
And from what I read on the forums, Im really suprised I got this increase without applying....yes, there is a santa claus! :-)
So, has anyone experienced only one step in this program? Thanks for any help given. Merry Xmas!
Oh you used the Capital One online messenger. Well, here's my little test... I picked a random category, I think was about online bill pay or something. Then, I typed "Why is the sky blue?". Low-and-Behold!!! I received the same exact message that you received!!! I caught on after I started receiving the same message for each question.
I'm currently in the credit step program. If all goes well I'll go from $500 ---> $750.
I still have five more months to go before my seventh statement came. Hopefully there is a second CSP. I really like to have a CL of 1K.
Same thing here. I got my second card back last December. Went from $300 to $500 and have been stuck ever since.
I don't know the answer to your question but I'll tell you what happened to my two sons. They both applied and received $300 limits about 2 1/2 years ago. One got a letter stating that he would get a $200 increase in a couple of months (can't remember the exact time frame) if he met certain conditions, while the other didn't receive the letter. Sure enough, he got the increase and it has remained at $500 since that time. The other son didn't receive any increases during that time but last week he logged in to pay his balance and they had bumped his limit to $2300.
Neither of them got any information about a credit step program and I'm wondering if those who end up with just one increase are not part of that program. I don't know anything about Capital one but from what I've read on here not everyone is automatically enrolled.
To those of you who have only received one increase, did they send information along with your card indicating that you would receive the 3 increases (or however many there are) and were part of the credit step program?
It's more like credit step program. Only one step for me.
well from the last time i called cap1, they said there are two different versions of the CSP,
CSP1- will give you an increase after the 3rd statement and then the next step would be until the 7th
CSP2- will give you an increase after the 5th statement and then the next step would be until the 7th
i got an increase on one of my cards right after the 3rd statement cut, so im hoping (fingers crossed) that next month both of my cards will increase as it would be my 7th and 5th statement respectively
Same thing happened to me. I got an automatic increase after 3 months, then nothing... I called Capital one, and they thanked me for my excellent payment history, but said I had completed the credit steps program and would be recieving no further increase unless i call in and request for it.
I think everybody has a different preset limit, and will only be increased up to that limit..
Call them up and you might get a customer requested increases, I was denied
I hope this is helpful. I received a capitol one card about a year ago and was automatically enrolled in steps program. I started at $300 CL and went to $500 after I think the 3rd billing statement. Called and ask if I would be receiving another increase and they advised that they weren't giving out increases due to the economy. Went about my business bc a increase didn't matter to me or not bc I use cc to rebuild and not to spend. I started working on my credit in Feb of this year so I can buy a house. Called back to see if I could get an increase and still given same answer. Logged on my account to last week and I had received a $1500 increase. I received a letter in the mail a few days later advising me that I had been such a good customer, but I didn't request increase so they did it on their own. I would wait it out if you are not in the position to apply for a more prime card at this time. Keep using it for little things and paying it off. That way they can see that you are responsible and would be willing to give you that increase.
