I recently just got approved for Venture X with 30K CL. I'm happy with that (also have the Savor One). But I'm wondering if anyone in this forum has ever successfully downgraded or "product changed" to a just the Venture card from the Venture X. I may decide to downgrade later on this year if don't want to pay the AF of $395 before it renews. I think the Savor One and either the Venture or Venture X make a killer combo... just not sure if I will be traveling in the future to justify the AF of the Venture X. I know cap1 is very weird with their approvals and lack of product change options.
You should Call them for your options.
I did call them... and they could only tell me I couldn't do that right now as there weren't "any promotions" for that right now. I'm assuming that's because my Venture X account was just opened a couple weeks ago.
I was able to check options with the PC link that was somewhere in the forum before to see if I had anything. I had the no AF VentureOne and the $95 AF Venture rewards cards. But I travel at least once a year so I'll just keep the VentureX. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. So it looks like it may actually be possible.
Still curious if anyone out there has ever successfully downgraded to a Cap1 Venture from a Venture X

If you can find that link and post it in this thread... that would be awesome. Didn't know Cap1 had a PC link people can use.
on desktop add "/productupgrade" to the end of the link when you're clicked into the Venture X account, that will show any PC options or show you this
You probably won't be able to see any options since the account is recently opened, try after 6 months and see if they offer you a PC down to V1 or Venture
You don't think you'll be able to take advantage of the travel credit? the anniversary bonus should make this an effective $-5 AF card

Turns out the link does work. But l did get the "Upgrade not available". LIke you said it's too early to get approved for a PC or downgrade. But I may just end up keeping the card if I travel enough to justify the annual fee of $395. I just seem to have a natural aversion to AF's that are this much money. I much prefer to pair up cards in echosystems with lower fees... but I try to be open-minded.
Cap One doesn't do downgrades. At best, you can PC into something else *if* it's offered to you. You'd probably have to wait at least a year to even be eligible for a PC.
Okay... so after doing more research I may have some other options with Cap1. IF... and that's just an "if" at this point, I ever want to cancel the Venture X and get the Venture card instead... I can just apply separeately for the Venture card (before I even cancel the Venture X). There is a myth out there you can only have two of the Cap1 personal cards at one time. That is a false DP. There are many people with 3 or more Cap 1 personal cards (as in non-business cards). I confirmed this by calling their customer service who even told me there is not a limit of two personal cards with Cap1. Even if I do cancel the Venture X next year... I still want the Venture card so I can still pair it with my Savor One. So we'll see how it goes.

I don't know that I'd call it a myth
There are DPs around the forums indicating members were denied for having too many Cap One cards (excluding cobranded and business cards). There are some who get away with 3, but they seem to be more the exception than the rule. Either that or they had 3 before Cap One changed their rules (they used to have a 5 card limit). Also, I'd take anything a CSR says with a grain of salt. They aren't always the most knowledgeable about these kinds of things...
