FWIW, my experience:
I called Chase a few days ago (after reading a ton of threads here) and asked about PC my freedom to a CSP a few days ago. My freedom was a mastercard world (equiv to Visa Signature from what I gather) with a limit over 5000. From what I read, they'll only let you PC to a CSP if you have a limit over 5000.
Anyway the gentleman easily did the PC and said I should have my card in 3-5 business days. I'm eagerly awaiting it! I got the first year AF waived, but could not get the points bonus since it's not technically a new app.
At the same time I upgraded my old chase +1 student card to a Chase Freedom. They did that one no problem for me through the secure message center. So I upgraded both my cards and now am looking forward to taking advantage of the Freedom/CSP/Checking combo!
Good luck getting your PC!
Funny, I was just thinking of something along these lines. I want the Freedom for general usage. I find the rewards better for what I spend money on and it has no AF so I could keep this card forever and not worry about it in the event that I don't find it useful in the future. However, the CSP has a much better sign up bonus.
So, I was thinking of applying for the CSP, quickly meeting the spending requirement for the points, getting the bonus points in my rewards account (which already exists because of my Ink) and then asking for a PC to the Freedom in a few months. Anyone ever done this? Potential problems or pitfalls?
