PC from Slate to Amazon Visa - Thoughts?

All - As i was going through my annual review of my CC portfolio, the slate came up at the bottom of the list as my go to CCs. At 4k limit and being dormant for a long time outside of some transactions under 5 which i do to keep the card active. As i don't carry a balance or have any tranfer requirements in the foreseeable future, i'm finding it hard to convince myself of its worth outside of the limit.

At this juncture i have 2 options(atleast according to me - i'm sure folks here have better ideasSmiley Wink)

- Close the card and move the limit to Freedom (which seems to be the easier path based on what i read in other threads)

- PC it to the Amazon Visa: I have a good 300-500 per month in amazon spending that traditionally goes through the freedom which i could benefit from PC.

On a side note - It was my first card during the rebuild time and i'd hate to close it Smiley Sad

I'm leaning towards the 2nd (PC to Amazon Visa). Has anyone had luck? Should i start with a secure message or try hitting one of the backdoor #s directly?

Any thoughts and suggestions are highly appreciated!

Move limit over to Freedom.

Then apply for a Amazon VISA and get the signup bonus.

On approval, Move just enough CL over to this card to make it a VISA Signature.

Re: PC from Slate to Amazon Visa - Thoughts?

I have the Amazon Visa (3% at amazon) and really like the card. But only because i don't have a Barclay Sallie Mae (5% at amazon).

Are you sure there is no other chase card you want besides the Amazon? Do you have a the SM card now?

Re: PC from Slate to Amazon Visa - Thoughts?

I'm constanty hunting for signup bonuses so I tend to apply for the card I want, then use any current limits as leverage for consolidation and/or leverage rather than PC'ing the card.  I see the other side to your situation though with it being an old TL and not wanting to close it.  I agree at looking into the Sallie Mae card for Amazon purchases though for the higher cash back rate.  I gues it all comes down to whats really the most important thing to you; AAoA, sign up bonuses, maximizing reards long-term, etc...

I looked at the chase portfolio and nothing seemed to be compelling outside of the 3 i have (CSP, Freedom and slate). I hate to see the slate just SD'd and serve no value. The amazon just stuck coz i atleast have some decent amazon spend which can go through a card while getting some bonus.

I was trying to avoid new apps (just did a USAir with Barclays) though i miss on the sign up bonus to preserve my AAoA as this is one of the older tradelines on my CR outside of my Amex. I hope chase plays ball with the PC.

Re: PC from Slate to Amazon Visa - Thoughts?

Nixon, with the advice you have given OP, will it work with new accounts? I would like to transfer the CL from my slate to my freedom an apply for the amazon visa as I buy tons from there. The rewards would be beneficial to me as opposed to a BT card. I really have no need for a BT card at moment.

I would say go for PC'ing to the Amazon Visa. At least it offers rewards unlike Slate. Or move the limit to Freedom like someone suggested but I think Freedom is kind of overrated.

Re: PC from Slate to Amazon Visa - Thoughts?

I have both the Amazon Chase and the Sallie Mae card.

I use my Amazon Chase mainly because it automatically uploaded to my account.

When I did finally use the Sallie Mae it was on a digital purchase.

Which happens to be the only amazon purchase that does not get %5.

If the majority of your monthly purchases do not include digital purchases you should consider the Sallie Mae card.

My 7 Cards

NFCU CashRewards: $7,500 I Discover It: $4,000 I Sallie Mae: $2800 I Amazon Chase Visa: $1000 I Amazon Store Card: $900 I Cap1 Quicksilver1: $750 I Macys Store Card: $600

Re: PC from Slate to Amazon Visa - Thoughts?

I thought this would have been posted by now, and maybe it has... but Chase doesn't allow PCs to/from cobranded CCs usually. So Chase Amazon I don't think is possible to be PC'd to.
