PNC do they lower APRs?

As a former BBVA clearpoints card holder my account became a PNC points visa. I was not one of the fortunate ones to get a lower APR and my APR is actually higher than the advertised highest rate for the clear points card.

I contacted customer service to inquire about lowering my APR and was advised that PNC does not allow requests to lower the APR but they do review accounts every six months for such a reduction. PNC also advised that when a APR reduction is granted it is automatic and a letter is mailed to the customer informing them of the new lower APR and when it will take effect. If they consider BBVA accounts "new" PNC accounts, that could mean those accounts could be up for review as soon as April for APR reduction... if that is how their six month system works.

If anyone has ever gotten a rate reduction with PNC please reply with your experience as I haven't found any info on anyone successfully getting a lower APR with them. Thank you.

Re: PNC do they lower APRs?

They do not lower APRs via customer-initiated requests. These are automatically reviewed, just as the agent informed you. If the account is eligible during any periodic reviews, then it will be lowered. IME, with the exception of 2 accounts that transitioned from BBVA, all of them received a lower APR than what they originally were (3 bp's). My existing accounts with PNC are still the same APR, though.

A point to note, if you PIF and do not revolve balances frequently (i.e. to avoid finance charges), then the APR would be a non-event. Though, PNC does offer promotional BTs from time to time on some accounts.

Re: PNC do they lower APRs?

Just my opinion but I wouldn't hold a balance on mine cause the rewards rate (0.8%? Without substantial money parked at PNC) is awful. They did recently give me an almost double credit limit increase so I use it a little now rather than just closing it. Unless they send nice balance transfer offers like fnbo does for my one card, I don't think it will be open for much longer.

Re: PNC do they lower APRs?

My Clear Points card was 16.99% when I apped in March 2020.

After the conversion to PNC, it automatically dropped slightly to 15.24%.
