I had a situation happen at my local fast food restaurant and I am just curious how exactly this would affect the rewards on my Paypal CB MC.
Right now I am still in my 90-days of 4% instead of 2% back.
I went to a local fast food place and ordered $7.42 worth of food.
For some reason, PP said in Pending that I was being charged 3 seperate times for the food.
I asked the staff just to verify and a manager said didn't see anything but re-scanned the card just to be safe.
Now within 24 hrs, 1 charge vanishes, 1 posts, and the other is pending like 10 days and also vanishes.
About 2 days later a $14.84 (twice $7.42) arrives as a refund/reversal.
Just to be safe as I didn't plan on getting the food free and making money, I contacted the restaurant but they said not even worth the drama for them to reverse the refund.
So my question is, will the $7.42 charge end up making 29 cents but then $14.84 refund take away 58 cents?

I would expect so: the simple coding would just be subtract rewards (at the current earn rate) for any credits/returns. If they tried to match up with items then you could just get the 29c removed but wouldn't expect that. But in any case, you are up over $7, right?
Happened last month when my partner was adding funds to his MTA Metrocard. Showed four pending charges, but three droppsed off eventually. But in that case there were several failed transaction attempts.
Thanks again for all of the responses!
I figured that's how it had to work but when I quickly inquired on online chat, they tried telling me the refund won't have any impact on Rewards but I knew that couldn't be true.
I noticed you have to watch sometimes with legit refunds as they can take even more than the original purchase made.
Like my old SYW/Sears MC, bought a Walmart.com order, $9.81 I think, and it made about 10 cents as 1%. Yet when I returned the item to my local Walmart which the card considered 3% Grocery Store, the return showed up as a local Walmart return not Walmart.com and it took 29 cents away. They fixed it afterwards but that seemed like a weird system.
