The AAA Daily Advantage Visa Signature Credit Card is one of the few credit cards that gives 5% cash back at grocery stores including Walmart.
Apparently this only applies to Walmart's brick and mortar retail locations. Ordering from Walmart.com does not get you 5% cash back but the standard 1% cash back.
Yep, Walmart.com always counts as discount store. In-store it could count as Grocery store or discount store depending.
Good catch; this is really useful to know. A lot of people assume that Walmart.com counts the same as in-store for grocery cash back, but clearly it doesn’t here. It’s a reminder to always double-check the terms and how transactions code before relying on a reward rate.
Walmart.com usually qualifies as "online shopping" rather than "grocery". Amex Blue Cash Everyday and Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards have that category for bonus rewards. US Bank Shopper Cash Rewards also allows you to select 2 stores for elevated rewards, and Walmart.com does trigger the higher reward.
If the Walmart store you shopping at is a super center with on line delivery orders it will be classified as a discount store. I asked an Amex representative about this scenario the representative stated it would be1% not 3% for rewards. The same rate as I getting now with Redstone. Check you inquiry to see how it is coded. If discount store look at UMB Bank rewards card
Edited to add I checked the last Walmart transaction I made for my delivery order. The company name was Walmart.com the Vcc or Mcc code is discount store because it is a super center non super center stores may code differently. If credit reward is based on the store where you bought the merchandise they look at the store name. If the credit card reward is based on a catagory grocery store discount store furniture store etc the Vcc or Mcc code is what determines if you get the reward or not
Same issue of what I have experienced using the AAA card at military commissaries: If I pay in store whether for normal shopping or to pay for an order to pick up, I receive the 5 percent rebate. If I order food for pick up and pay the commissary online, I only receive the 1 percent rebate. This is a disappointment as it is a time wasting hassle to go into the commissary to pay for items that I ordered for pick up compared to just paying online when I place the order.

Apparently there is a work around:
Getting 5% cash at Walmart.com with AAA Daily Advantage Visa Signature Credit card
"AAA Daily 5% does work for online purchases (Walmart.com and app), but you have to checkout and pay through PayPal when doing so. Meaning add your AAA Daily to PayPal first then checkout using PayPal with the AAA Daily as the underlying card.
Apparently only using the card itself without PayPal won't trigger the 5%."
I have not done this my self but it should work.
