I am presently in Greece and have discovered that Discover is accepted in many places here which came as a surprise to me. I did not bring my Discover with me because I'm well aware it is not useable in many countries but here does not seem to be an issue. I have it on Apple Pay so used it today just for the hell of it. Worked fine. So if you are looking to travel abroad at least in Greece it does not seem to be an issue. That being said it goes without saying to have a visa or MC with you at all times.
The whole "Discover isn't accepted abroad" thing is super outdated. Sure it's not as widely accepted as Visa or MC, but Discover runs on the Diners Club and UnionPay networks abroad and has pretty widespread acceptance.
Yes absolutely, Diners network quite widespread in Greece and neighborhood!

Thanks for the Disco info!
It's neither here-nor-there, but in Greece was your Discover accepted natively (run directly on the Disco network) or was it run as a Diner's Club card? I know it might be hard to tell, and of course it really doesn't matter as long as it works.
I am also curious if stores/vendors there actually have Discover signage... that would be an indicator that Discover is really stepping-up their international game.
