This has been happening with Synchrony lately. I believe they have acknowledged ths issue. I do agree that their outsource support is horrendous.
I wouldn't go as far as saying to avoid them in the future, as it would have been fixed by then. I care not about Synchrony, but PayPal is great. Synchony's CLI process is also something I like very much. I am happy with my 3% cashback with their Cashback Mastercard + Business Debit combo.

After this issue “I”will be avoiding them in the future regardless. Although just for the record I never stated for anyone else to avoid them if you read the post I said be forewarned, etc. I do agree with the CLI process via Synchrony though as I have the Sync/Furniture Row Card.

This is what is keeping me from getting the PayPal 2% cashback card. I am not sure I can willingly sign up for a credit card where the outsource support is horrendous. I really like the card on paper.

That and you have the Fidelity and the Amex Magnet for non-category spending already, anyway, so I would not put up with Paypal/Sync.

This is kind of the reason why I didn't open the PayPal 2% MasterCard + PayPal Debit 1% combo.
I haven't heard anybody report what happens if there's any type of dispute when using the combination, but I suspect resolution might not be so straightforward and frankly I'm willing to lose that 1% in order to not have to deal with it.
Yes, my guess is that you have to dispute the debit transaction, and the credit card doesn't come into it. Debit card protections are usually weaker than credit card, so this could be an issue if you buy big ticket items this way (on the other hand, on costly items, 3% vs 2% is more worthwhile!)
But IMO one of the big advantages of the combo comes when paying taxes. A lot of the payment processers charge a LOT less for debit vs credit, so even though you may not get the 1% credit, it's still much better than paying with a 2% card

This is correct. There are times that I use it as debit (vs credit with 1%) because I can save more. Not only that, there are also merchants that ONLY accept debit cards, which means I can still use my debit and earn the cashback like it was credit card.

This will be a PayPal issue, not with Synchrony.
(edited) I can see why the combo is popular on here, but I personally can't pull the trigger on it.
