PayPal Key - BoA Cash Rewards

Just came across PayPal Key which seems to be a catch all virtual card number (one for many cards, seems static) and may run as debit for the vendor. I'm not positive on this and there are some conflicting comments out there. Has anybody tried this?

Just now I decided to "try" the card on my apartment website to see how it would come up. On AppFolio, I chose pay with a debit/credit card and it showed the $10 flat fee which means it was picked up as a debit card instead of the 3% credit card fee...

So now I'm wondering, has anybody with a Bank of America Cash Rewards card tried PayPal Key? With the online shopping category and relationship bonus, I would get 3.3% cash back and subtracting the $10 fee that means I could get $25 back on rent each month. Just want to make sure I'm not missing something and maybe this will code as something else and ruin my plan!

edit » here's a thread of some success with Discover's 5% back on the PayPal category but that's a little different I think?

Re: PayPal Key - BoA Cash Rewards

There have been some encouraging datapoints on the DoC article regarding this. Seems it's most likely going to process the transaction as a debit card and this is with services that normally charge the credit card fee whether it's done through the business processor or even the bank itself like no cash advance fees. The only real way you'll find out, though, is to test it for yourself. To me it seems like worth at least trying once because it sounds like it'll be lucrative to get something back for monthly rent until further notice
