Well, on the desktop, as they say, you don't (at least obiously) go through a SAML connection to Sync. How much is that worth? Not a lot to me, but still!

Pencil it in. Change on September 20th (cards will still work). Autopays will be removed and you will need to re-establish. No more fako scores, much of the sync functionality is being removed. Can't close account online anymore
. Card will be fully managed in the Paypal app.
Are there any improvements happening because of the system upgrade?
Yes. This upgrade is designed to enhance your PayPal Cashback Mastercard® and PayPal Cashback World Mastercard® experience by making your account management seamless.
Account improvements:
- You'll be able to manage your PayPal Cashback Mastercard account preferences right from the PayPal app.
- You'll be able to log in to your PayPal Cashback Mastercard account directly through PayPal — you will no longer be redirected to Synchrony Bank.
Payments and rewards improvements:
- When making a payment using your PayPal balance, your balance will immediately reflect the outgoing payment amount.
- You can see your cash back rewards grow in real time.
So now that the updates have been done... mine looks the same? I don't see any differences
If you aren't seeing differences you probably need to update the app.

It is up to date. I've had my account since around May and there has been zero changes to my online portal

I'm really not sure what to tell you. The interface was updated on September 20th. It's completely different. If you aren't seeing it, then your app hasn't actually updated. The Card user interface has literally been moved from a third party website, to the native Paypal app. There's a button to freeze the card now. You can redeem rewards there. The transaction history isn't hidden behind several clicks anymore. There's no longer an option for a CLI anymore.
Do you still have CLI's available. I'm very interested since you seem to have a different interface. Does the CLI work for you?
Also, did you always have the ability to freeze the card before 9/20? That's the first I've heard of it as that feature was only supposed to be available after 9/20. Maybe they had you on the Beta test since you opened it in May?

I have had the ability to redeem rewards directly through the PayPal App and freeze my card through the app since I got it. As soon as I select my card, it shows right in the app and I am able to redeem rewards right on that page. Always been that way for me.

As I suspected, it sounds like you were part of the beta test before it got rolled out to existing card holders.
I assume you've never had the option to get a CLI? We had that in the old interface.
I'm really frustrated with the new integration into PayPal. It seems that I can't link my main bank for payments now (PenFed CU).
So now I have to transfer money from that bank to another bank where I still have an account just to make payments. I don't have time to micromanage this every month.
Sock drawer time.

You can. There is an option to link it manually. Use that and they'll do the old test deposit system.
Add PenFed to your Paypal account. That's how you add payment methods for the CC.
