In PP, this virtual card gets connected to any payment method that is set as preference (a real credit card, a checking account, etc). You can find several videos on YouTube.
I was using it a few times for payments over the phone for home miantenance costs (I do not like to tell my real CC info over the phone).
It's a virtual debit card (important in some situations where only debit cards are allowed or have lower fees). Also, I don't think it can be added to Samsung or Apple Pay. It can be used for Google Pay but online only, and that's not much of a gain as you could just use the PP Key number anyway.
Thanks for corrections. I thought that it can get used in all digital wallets. Anyway, before using it for in store purchases, the service stopped
I am getting one PP debit card now and let's see how it works. I want to use it for in store, online shopping or pay bills, when having PP 5% cashback cateogry in Chase Freedom or Discover (some places do not support PP as the purchase method).
I too had to delete my PPK last night to avoid a possible fraud charges in the future.
I was just on the phone with PayPal this morning and same thing... have to wait for it to re-appear as it's an algo system generated and no way any rep or human can initiate it. At least according to them.
It'll be a bummer if I don't get it again as it's a really useful tool to pay online any place that don't accept Paypal since it acts like a regular cc with CVV and what not that runs on MC network.
I had it linked to Paypal Credit for funding so any $99 and above purchase gives me the 0% Financing for 6 months. Any day anytime!!
Good luck to both of us and pls keep me posted if you ever get it back soon.
I'm using it to make an end run around Verizon's prohibition on using CC for the Autopay discount. I've been told that the charge shows up as Paypal/Verizon so I should still have the cell phone insurance through my CFF. $30 a month less and I still get the insurance, works for me.
Virtual CC is a nice service to have. It can help to minimzie exposing the permanent CC while it might have some issues like purchase protection. Some banks in the other countries also provide a virtual card service with a maximum charge limit that you set as an additional layer of protection. I hope that I can get this service back again
One good example of using this service is using it for onsite home maintenance fee payment to the companies that only accept check or credit card payment (over the phone, very unsecure). In Q3, Discover was offering 5% cashback on PP and I could max-out the quarterly cashback by using the PP virtual CC to pay for an urgent home maintenance fee
No success here after a week. I am still getting the same "coming soon" message. Could anyone use again this PP key service?
It's pretty cool. Not only can you skirt some fees since it's a virtual debit card, it makes it very easy to change payment method. Have all your monthlies set up on Paypal key, get new cc and change the key to use the new card instead of changing each individual bill.
You do have to enable PayPal cash management or whatever to open it. I've had a PayPal account forever but never kept money in it, I had to enable before the PayPal Key link in various websites would work.
I got PP cash card and still no success to get PP key again. I tried to create new accounts by new emails and no success
I plan to pay a large maintenance cost and if I use credit card, they will charge ~20$ but they do not charge a debit card. I wanted to use PP cash card but this debit card cannot get connected to a credit card and it gets declined (it needs adding money to the PP account and afterward, use PP cash card that is useless here). The PP cash card seems to be a useless service.
Any suggestion? How can I pay a maintenance cost using a debit card while connect this debit card to my CC (I need a service similar to PP Key)?
Unfortunately, there has been a plethora of PayPal users who have not been able to generate new PayPal Key accounts as of recent, especially those who deleted their prior PPKs. So, it doesn't matter whether you create 1 or 20 new PayPal accounts. I'm on the same boat as far as not being able to link or set-up a new PPK on existing PayPal accounts, but it's no biggie for me (I was a late bloomer in finding out about it). I figured, at some point it'll show up as an option.
I don't know of any option where you can connect any debit card to a CC (as in what PPK does), other than recent hybrid products that act like Debit/CC but more aligned for new credit builders.

Just get a 1% cash back debit card from one of the banks and call it a day. You aren't going to do any better without paypal key.
