I would hazard a guess that the reduction in all benefits helped fund this new change. The DC is now almost as good as BBP is. It should be fairly easy to obtain 1.5CPP from TYP domestically. Until M&S sweet spot gets killed 2CPP domestically is fairly easy to obtain! For those flying Premium long haul this should make the DC a fairly easy 4% card. Citi TYP are the forgetten child in the points world and I can't figure out why. Lots of sweet spots with the current partners to make this card a game changer for Citi.
I'll be putting a app in in about a week once the uncertainly around transfers clears up.
For me it's even better than BBP. For me 2 MR's are worth 2.4 cents, while 2 TYP's are worth 3 cents.
The only thing better about BBP for me is that it's a business card. I do a lot more business spending than personal spending.

The best use of TY is still on partner transfer for travel. The TY portal is only the last resort if you do not have any other way to redeem. It is like Chase UR portal.
For travel, you generall get more than 1.5 cpps. So DC gets you north of 3% on TYs.
@BronzeTrader I agree that travel partners are better but the portal is amazing when you need to go and don't want to deal with connections that usually come with award travel or there isn't any award availability. But yes, I do agree that if one is flexible, transfer partners are a much better value...portal redemption when you just want to go and don't want to be as flexible.
It's also worth mentioning that when you transfer to a partner for an award flight, you don't earn anything through your frequent flyer account, while bookings made through travel portals like Citi's are treated as revenue flights. While it may not be a terrific value, my true net for any future Delta bookings should be 1.59 cents per TYP after taking into consideration the 25% Premier bonus, 10% rebate from Rewards+, and SkyMiles earnings as a Platinum Medallion (my next flight and a few more bucks on Delta Reserve will cinch that). Considering I really only use Citi for 3%-5% spending, that's a 4.77%-7.95% total net on spending just using the travel portal.
Redeeming that for even something modest like a Premium Economy BOS-CDG-BOS Air France flight would probably net me something like 25-35% back because of the way miles are awarded for partner flights (based on distance and class rather than pre-tax ticket price), but it would be widely variable depending on the ticket price.

In my case, DC would also work better. Not so much because of the MR or TYP value, but because I can't use BBP with Plastiq for my expenses. About $5k per month don't get charged on a card because CC payments aren't accepted, so after doing some quick math: $5k x 12 months = 120k TYP per year. Then, depending on the value I can extract, I'm hoping about 1cpp or more after paying the full 2.5% fee to Plastiq, which could be less because Plastiq runs promotions lowering their fees.
Looks like you can't combine Thank You Points. I converted Citi DC cash to TY points, and was issued a second TY number for my DC card (separate from my Premier TY account).
I went to transfer, and found the attached. Premier TY points can be transferred to any partner. DC (and Rewards+) TY points can only be transferred to Jet Blue's program.
The good news is that Jet Blue is offering a 1.25:1 deal right now.
Remains to be seen whether Rewards+ 10% rebate applies to DC TY points.

Before jumping to that conclusion, please combine your 2 Thankyou points accounts -- i.e. combine the DC TYP account into the Premier TYP account -- and see what happens then.

@Anonymous Interesting. My DC was issued its own TYPs number. Called Citi up yesterday and had it merged with the TY number of my Prestige. Now I have one number and both cards show under that number when logging into ThankYou.com. I still keep my Premier and Rewards+ under different ThankYou numbers for other reasons but I was definitely able to merged the 2 into one number without issue.

I don't think @Chiclets has combined both TYP accounts. You are issued a separate TYP account for each card, so the magic should happen after merging the accounts
I've been having nothing but technical problems with it, so I can't even try to transfer.
Yesterday each time I tried to redeem for TYP's I got an error message.
Today I logged in to find my cash rewards missing, but my new TYP's missing as well.
The CSR assures me they will show up in 2-3 days.
In the interim I combined my new DC TYP account into my Premier TYP account. It will be interesting to see what happens when my points show up and I try a transfer.
Thanks all.
I will call and merge my DC TY account into my Premier account.
Question: I don't have the Rewards+ card, but if you do, I understand there is a 10% rebate on point redemptions.
Does that apply only to the Rewards+ TY account number, or can you combine with Premier and get the 10% rebate on Premier TY point redemptions too?
Success.
I merged my Double Cash Thankyou point account into my Premier Thankyou point account.
I redeemed my Double Cash rewards by converting to Thankyou points.
I then went to the transfer points section, and could have transferred to anyone with those points ( I did transfer to JetBlue ).
