if it's purely for regular spend, then why not do both? get a prepaid card with 5% card, which after fees will be a 3.5-4% return. then go and buy store gift cards with those prepaid cards, increasing your cashback even more!

Yes, I've done that, but I'm offering this a  MS-free approach!

Now you're talking LTlurker!

This could work out well.  In fact, forget selling GCs at a discount how about wholesaling just the GC numbers?

Giftcard #s can sent easily by phone, sms, or email.

Whatever you do don't send them electronically if you sell on ebay.. you're asking to just give away gift cards then because people can and do ask paypal to get their money back after they've gotten the GC!

Re: Perils of MS

Great point. I thought PayPal doesn't do refunds on digital products? Maybe there's a way to digitize the codes.
Discover IT $19,000 == 12/2013
AMEX 12/2013 ---BCP $12,000 === BC $23,000 ----- 04/2014
CHASE SLATE $5,700 === 12/2013
BoA 123 $6000 === 12/2013
Barclay Rewards $1500 == 12/2013

Re: Perils of MS

LTL i was curious about when you use giftcard granny to buy discounted GC, do you trust the people that are selling them on ebay? I saw some that were discounted in 20-25% range that was very tempting i don't know if i trust the people selling on ebay tho.

I don't do the ebay ones despite the very tempting percentages, just because of the hassle if (when!) things go wrong.  I've built a good relationship with one of the vendors (GiftCardZen) and they are vey quick at refunding if there are problems.

(There are apparently real differences between various cards, for example ~ 10% of the Petco cards don't work (reported missing or stolen) whereas I have never had trouble with other merchants.  This is apparently due to the very limited verification offfered for Petco, so GiftCardZen expects this to happen on some, and will refund with no problem)

But if you buy from ebay on other stuff (which I don't), I guess buying gift cards there also makes sense.

Re: Perils of MS

Back to original topic.   It happens that a lot of people have a Amex BC closing date of the 27th of each month, so rewards would post today.   Many reports of people receiving cancellation emails today (so the rewards will not be paid).

Obviously depends on potential savings.  Now compared to going to supermarket X, and waiting in line at Walmart, and then depositing MO in another bank, this takes no time at all!  However, the rewards are much less.

Getting the cards via email really speeds things up.
