Re: Planning App Spree.. Thoughts?

On mobile now
@celluloid - I do have interest in a CSP eventually, which is why I think Freedom is a good deal. It is mostly for the portal.
@KDM - my TR card is my general spending. Preferred rewards Smiley Happy I have had trouble finding anything else to add. Maybe IHG when the 8th + $50 rolls around.
@Nixon - none at the moment. Thinking about a CSP eventually.
@heavenly and callandra - thanks for the Barclay input!

IHG is a great addition for it's complimentary night yearly. Hyatt points are very valuable as well if this interests you.

and the Marriot Rewards Visa is a good card too, if you like Marriott Hotels, it is a Visa Signature Card and if you are approved the minimum CL is $5K...

Re: Planning App Spree.. Thoughts?

I see no problem getting the Freedom, Discover IT, and second Sallie Mae cards.

My AAoA is higher than it has ever been (19 months!) but will be dropping soon. I don't worry too much about AAoA. It hasn't held me back all that much.

Personally, I don't find the Freedom very useful. I don't like their online mall. The categories that interest me are often available on other cards. However, I didn't get where I am today by passing up $200. You can always wait 6-8 months, transfer the credit limit to your AARP card, and close the Freedom. The best way to get credit limit increases with Chase is to apply for more cards and later transfer the balance.

I like the Discover It online mall.. However, I also like the FNBO SavingStar.com online mall, and FNBO gives free Experian FICO bankcard score, SP CLI requests every 3-4 months if you call and ask for a pre-approved credit increase, cash out anytime you have at least $5 accumulated, etc. Lots to like with the SavingStar for online purchases, except that its on the American Express network.

Did you also consider the Huntington Voice card, and US Bank cash+ ?

The FNBO card looks interesting... do you have any examples of deals from their mall?  I wouldn't get the card for an everyday card, but if I could use the mall, I'd love a free EX.

The Voice looks like the US Bank Cash Plus?  Less to choose from and only one category.  What is the points/cents conversion if I may ask?

The Cash plus was a contender for sure!  However, I don't really use the categories *too* much to warrent the new account.  I am a bit worried about US Bank nerfing categories again...

Thanks for the input.  Looking forward to hearing more about the FNBO Amex.

It's a slippery slope!  I have a modest income and I'd like to save up for a home.  I can't afford luxury hotels like a Hyatt or Marriott, I usually buy the cheapest hotel on hotwire Smiley Very Happy

But the IHG card is class, it's worth it for the free night stay IMO.  Plus, 80k points would give me a nice start to a vacation one of these days.

This isn't the usual Savingstar mall page, but I think it will let you view this page at least:  https://savingstar.com/blog/bonus-eligible-retailers/

So its 5% cash back when using the SavingStar card with the online mall, plus the current cash back amount for each business.  I'll just give a few of the first ones listed: Staples 5%, Kohls 4%, LandsEnd 6%, ProFlowers 20%, Drugstore.com 8%

Voice is just one 3% category (I think 1X = 1%). but it has interesting categories that don't just overlap what everyone else is offering. 3% at Drugstores interests me. or 3% at Walmart, or on Utilities, etc.

The Voice does have some really useful 3% category options, moreso than most of the Cash + 5% options.  If I were in their footprint, I would totally apply for that card and make it a daily driver along with Sallie Mae and Double Cash.  Also, the Voice card has no foreign transaction fees, which makes it a nice default travel card, especially when you select the Travel & Entertainment category for 3% back.
