The little devil sitting on my shoulder is telling me to let a balance of 4k post, putting me a hairline over 74% utilization on that single card, and jacking my overall into the 12% zone, then paying it off after the posting, just to see the damage that ensues.... I'd like to know how this will hit me pointswise, as I've never carried over 6% total.
Doing this for three reasons...
The CLI that will most definitely come from PIF in one statement, adding more padding to my util.
Forcing GE/Amex to "pay attention" with their AR's, since I used that much on a "padding card," and PIF, but Amex always gets more love anyways. ![]()

The hit my score will take going past the 10% margin.
Yeah, my dumb *** is finally headed to the Marriage Zone!!?!?!
Majority vote!!! Should I let it post???
I would not assume that they will give you a CLI for having a big charge then paying it in full. It seems like an impressive thing but it doesn't necessarily mean that you will get a CLI. Different companies decide CLIs in different ways.
Sterling will follow through with a CLI, without a doubt.
I dont see how you have anything to lose by doing that anyway. Uitl percent isnt cumulative so as soon as you pay it off, whatever hit your score takes should recover immediately so it is worth a try plus will be interesting to see how many points you lose on your score with util spiking.
Experimentation is dangerous for me.![]()
The short term knock will be worth it, if I'm estimating future actions correctly...
$40 in rewards points is a terrible thing to loose over a gamble that may not even be noticed by your other creditors.
Forty bucks in MR's is a sacrifice necessary, in order to keep a 5.4k padding TL open for another year, or two, and to have that line grow from CLI.
....aside from that, forty is an hour at the bar, or three days of smokes for me...did me a good thing. ![]()
I don't know but from what I have seen and heard Kay does do some auto CLI when card is used or paid on a promo but otherwise CLI "Requests" are done in store with purchase "usually" and cost a HP. I don't see the arm or what not of the reporting but thinking GE is going to care about interest rate on their card becasue of your $4k use on Kay (if I'm reading that right) is not going to happen.... most GE are store cards or store branded Visa/Amex, what not and they are fixed/variable maybe but will NEVER go below a set amount which is I believe pretty much currently what it is... most of the store are in the 22.99-26.99 and that's standard, not credit based.
Amex might take note of higher lines, not so much sure about balances unless they are staying and they are seeing it and not liking it.... credit is a screen shot so if it's not a balance on the creditors card then they would have to be taking a look at you at the right moment and not sure how that would be good for you later if not them as the creditor.
It's for padding. Not to cause the current wallet/future wallet occupants jealous/matching. This was entirely a score test, with nice results.
