I am beyond frustrated right now...
I have a joint credit card with my Fiance through Macy's/Amex and I logged in today to see what our credit limit was and to inquire about getting a CLI...
I noticed the account was showing past due...
Billing cycle ends/begins on 10th of each month
The purchase was made on June 17th in the amount of $40.60
looking at my July Satement it shows a balance of $40.60 with a payment due date of August 6th
The reason I didn't make the August payment is because I guess we got enrolled in paperless statements and my Fiance simply forgot about the purchase ( I am pretty angry/frustrated with her for that)
After the August statement we were charged a late fee of $27.00 and a interest charge of $2.00 bringing the balance to $69.60
I logged in this morning to see about requesting a CLI and noticed the account was past due and immediatley paid off the balance in full
The August statement shows the $69.60 balance as being due on Sept 6th (that balance included the late/interest fee's.
I immediately called Macy's credit department after making the payment to explain the situation and to get enrolled in paper statements once again and she assured me they would not being reporting past due/late payment to the CRA's and even credited me the $29.00 in fee's back...I am just wanting some reassurance that this is true and will not be reported late on my CB's.
I am so frustrated because at the age of 24 I pride myself on having excellent credit with just shy of 100k in credit limits, an perfect payment history with 760-780 credit scores across all thre buruea's and It came so close to being ruined, or could be still if the lady at macy's gave me bad information..
Mistakes happen and we learn from them
Go make up with your fiance and don't let this get between you two. The rep credited the fee's and it sounds like you weren't late enough for it to report. Use it as a learning experience and like stated above, set up all cards to pay the minimum as a fail safe.
Breathe and relax. Fortunately, you caught this in time! Had you not paid by your September 6th due date, then it would have been 30 days late. The 30 day late red marks (and 60, etc...) are always based on the due dates. No harm no foul, and it sounds like you got wonderful customer service with them waiving the fee!
Right now, I would say im 60% you got the correct info and 40% she didn't. IF she gave you the refund, i would assume you'll be ok.
What I would do is call back and talk to a supervisor, explain what happened and see what she/he says.
Let us know.
I concur with my fellow FICOers, and I would also suggest that maybe you take a step back. Managing one's credit should never be this serious or stressful. I can understand your concern about potential harm to your CRs/CSs, most, if not all of us, here take pride in our credit profiles. But I would never be angry/frustrated at my SO simply because he forgot to pay a bill. Not he was lazy and didn't care about my credit and didn't pay the bill, but that he simply forgot. And I can totally relate to forgetting one purchase. I did with CO and like you, didn't find out until about 2wks later when I used my CC at Costco. Fortunately, they allowed the transaction to go through, and instead sent me an email saying that my CC could be shutdown if I didn't pay my past due bill. Since I don't use CO often, I completely forgot about a couple of purchases I made using Paypal which I have connected to my CO CC. I missed the first email they sent me regarding the missed payment because CO has the tendency to send my constant emails and letters, so much so that it all became white noise. After this incident, I decided I needed to at least set up a fail safe with all my CCs so this doesn't happen again in the future. So while I incurred unnecessary fees, I took it as a life lesson that probably will save me more than the fees I paid. Here, you lucked out, you were able to get the fees waived. Now go apologize to your SO! ![]()

Thanks for everyone's input on this subject, I appreciate it! I think I will take the advice of calling back and speaking with a supervisor for reassurance. I would assume I should be in the clear considering she credited me the late fee's and interest charge back.. in fact she went as far as to "promise me on behalf of Macy's" that this would not be reported as a late payment on my CB which I thought was odd. She also sent a note to some department to ensure it wasn't to be reported past due, however I should probably call and verify with a supervisor that I recieved accurate information.
This is my only joint credit card and we really don't ever use it... for my individual card's I monitor them daily by checking balances, etc ( I ALWAYS PIF ) I think my plan on action is to recieve paper statement's and see if we can get set up on text/e-mail alerts for payments as I don't like having auto pay set up.
update:
I just called the credit department at Macy's again and asked to speak with a supervisor. The supervisor told me that the late fee/interest charge were in fact credited back to my account, verified that I am set up on paper statements and I also set up text/email alert's for the future. He also informed me I will not see a derogatory mark on my CB's concerning a 30 late payment because the payment was made before it was 30 days late. He told me the account was showing past due 21 days in their system.
So all is good new's and I am so glad something told me to log into my account this morning to check my credit limit which brought this to my attention!
