Possible to Get a Discontinued Card?

Possible to Get a Discontinued Card?

Probably impossible and/or a bad idea but..
I would really like to get a Presidential Plus card from Chase even though they don't take new applications.  With the spending I could move to that card I should be able get my United flyer status elevated pretty high.
Is there anything that can be done? ;Perhaps enter into a binding contract with a current PP card hold to put me on as an auth user, then remove themselves afterwords?
My myfico TU score is 819 and Equifax Fico score is 809. I suppose it would be important that the history on the card be good as to not hurt mine once the history gets in my CR.
It's a crazy idea but has anyone heard of something like this?;
Thanks

Short answer: No....

Longer answer: Definitely not...

If you had the card already, they might let you keep it (until eventually they phased out the program altogether, which if I remember correctly, has happened already with this card) but, don't think you can get it. I'd be willing to bet on it.

They would not be able to remove themselves if you were only an authorised user. If you became a joint account holder and they later removed themselves, then it may work.

Re: Possible to Get a Discontinued Card?

No chance. The company the card is based on isn't even around anymore. From my understanding Chase doesn't even allow joint cardholders anymore.

Plus the type of spending required to get any meaningful EQM's is insane. To even get to Silver you'd have to out $125,000 through it just to get 25,000 EQM's. and the benefits for Silver aren't that great. You'd be better off with the new Club card and putting the same type of spend that you'd need to on the old card you end up with 187,500 miles.

The best way to get status is the old fashioned BIS.

Your understanding is correct. As of earlier this year, Chase no longer accepts applications to add a joint owner on credit cards.

Re: Possible to Get a Discontinued Card?

There have been a few cases of people who had the Presidential Plus and converted to the United Club card being allowed to switch back. They cited some difference (like being downgraded from presidents club to Avis first on the Club card, while PP didn't have their Avis benefits reduced). However if you never had the PP before then your chances of getting it are 0.

I doubt it would be possible, and the AU idea is faulty as the only way the holder of the account can "remove" him/herself would be to close the account, and any AU would of course be removed as well. Good luck to you.

Re: Possible to Get a Discontinued Card?

Being an AU would defeat the point since all RDMs and EQMs will go to the UA account of the primary cardholder. They won't split your AU charges to a separate mileage account. Unlike Amex, Chase AUs all have the exact same CC number so they wouldn't even be able to tell which is which anyways.

Re: Possible to Get a Discontinued Card?

Pretty sure they now allow 75k/year of spend to count toward status.  That would get you Premier Platinum status which has some good perks.

Of course that's if you have the MileagePlus Presidential Plus Credit Card.
