I have to say I am really enjoying the Chase Sapphire Preferred/Freedom combo. I have some new cards (AU and own cards) that I am working on bonuses for right now, so the Chase combo is on the backburner for the time being. That said, I really, really like this combo. What are your favorite cards and/or rewards programs? Post below!
Citi Forward 5% dining/Amazon
Barclays Sallie Mae 5% gas/groceries
Citi Double Cash 2% everything else
CSP-INK
There are two I really like. Ink Plus/Ink Cash/Freedom and Bus Plat/Bus Blue/EDP. I'd be torn if I had to choose one, but thankfully I can have both!
For some, the Prestige/TY Premier or Preferred may be a good choice, especially when combined with Citi Gold.
IHG in general, and especially with the Chase MC.
Pros:
Chase's free night anywhere is great.
There are slightly unconventional ways to earn oodles of points without spending a ton of money (mailed entries for Priceless Surprises, 30k bonus point rates, cash+points rates, etc).
Lots of properties.
Good free breakfast at Holiday Inns.
Cons:
It's hard to get a spectacular cpp value.
An "upgrade" usually just means a room on a higher floor (which can still be nice). The benefits don't extend to IC properties.
The conventional earn rate on the Chase card is pretty mediocre.
"Free breakfast" at some higher-end properties can be unimpressive.
My favorite is Sallie Mae + SSFCU Power Travel rewards.
My biggest spend categories are, more or less in order, travel, Amazon, dining, gas, groceries. These two cards cover all of my biggest spend areas at 5% or 3.3%. I'm also not big on collecting points, so these are perfect for me.
My favorite combo is the freedom/CS (non-af)/Ink combo. I get the 5x categories on the freedom, the 2x on restaurants on the CS and the5x on phones/office supplies/cable/internet with the ink.
I am also for UR points with CSP - Freedom as favorite followed by SPG
Amex ED is my go to card. I always exceed the 20. I'm saving my points for something special. Not sure what that special thing is, but it's fun to think of the prospects.
