Does anyone know if Elan allows product changes from the Fidelity Rewards Visa Signature to another Elan card, specifically the Max Cash Preferred? I know from forum searching that one can product change among the various other Elan cards but I couldn't find any info on product changing from the Fidelity card. I ask since I got a mailer from Fidelity today. I already have a couple 2% cards, so I'm not interested in this card beyond the sub, but I might apply if I can change it to another card later on.
I recently called and successfully changed a bank-orphaned Elan platinum (no rewards starter card) to a Max Cash+ in 5 minutes.
Call the number on the back of the card and ask? The rep was pleasant, helpful and the change won't affect your credit history. The only downfall is that a PC won't gain you any signup bonus (which she made clear) and the card limit will remain the same as the original card.

I'm curious... the bank-orphaned card (which is your way of saying that it's now directly managed by Elan due to them no longer servicing that bank), did it stay "generic" with the PC? As opposed to it being assigned back to a different FI that is (not that it makes any sense for them to reassign it, but I have been wondering if you could only PC while it still had a specific bank attached.)
This is a great question, never thought about this and I would love an opportunity to shed a redundant 2% card...following this thread in hopes of seeing DP's on this...
My guess would be that the Fidelity card being a co-branded offering that is integrated within the Fidelity sytem (redemption via Fidelity accounts) it's likely not PC'able.

And of course remember that if you have $2M in fidelity MANAGED accounts, it becomes a flat 3% card, so just in case that might happen...!

I should have made that statement more clear sorry! The original local bank I'd aquired the card from was bought out by Rabo, then again by Mechanics Bank years later. I'd closed my accounts with Rabo (bank fee's abhor me) so by orphaned, I meant the card was a Mechanics Bank branded card which I have had no banking relationship with.
In short, the new Cash Plus card I received has a Mechanics Bank label. Sorry for the confusion =)

Correct.
Because ELAN has a brokerage partner agreement with Fidelity, the card cannot be PC'd to any of the other ELAN core CCs, such as those offered by the individual member banks/CUs.
@DakotaM - you're welcome to call to confirm DPs for others who may be curious on this.

Gotcha. That makes sense.
Now that I look at my mailer more carefully, it looks like it's just an invitation to apply rather than a pre-approval. It's got a specific APR stated, but it looks like the thats the APR everyone gets. Well, I'll be passing on this one then.
Thanks!
