I'm being added to a Wells Fargo card and we went to do it online and its only asking for first and last name...I want this card to report its good history to my account so im just trying to make sure we do it right?
Here is what we are doing...
1. Sign in and click on the credit card account on the main accounts page.
2. Click "Customize My Account" link under "Account Information" box in top left corner of screen.
3. Click "Addition Cardholders" link under "REQUEST CREDIT CARD FEATURES" section.
4. It only asks for First and Last Name and then gives a "Submit" button...
how can this ensure this account will be reported on my credit report? Is there another way to do this better?
i've added my parents on some of my accounts just by entering their names...and it shows up on their reports so i'm sure what you're doing is just fine

Thats kinda spooky...? I could just type in "Billy Bob" and some random Billy Bob out there would get a card in his name?
I mean how could that work? Ive heard of getting a card without a SSN and they use a name associated with an address which narrows it down pretty well...but never of just a first and last name...?

Anyone confirm this will get me the account reporting to my credit reports?

i'm almost sure it will...if it doesn't work out for you with regards to CRs, then you can always remove yourself as AU or main account holder can

I think they use different sources to try to make a match. I've done this with my sister and friends. In my experience, they are usually able to make a match. As long as adding an authorized user doesn't cost, then try it and see what happens. Otherwise you may never know.
Well, basically what im wondering is if I should be calling a certain number or going to a branch vs doing it online...but i guess its all the same..?

Well, we sent a secure message to Wells Fargo and this was the response...
"I received your email regarding an authorized user.
Because your authorized user is not a joint signer on the credit card,
there will be no credit reporting for the authorized user."
And then mentioned filling out a form to become a joint signer...would that require a hard inquiry to make that happen?

Thanks for posting this. My DH was just approved for a WF Visa Signature card yesterday and after he gets the card, he will add me and our son as authorized users. I actually wouldn't mind if it didn't report on my CRs. I merely wanted to be an AU to maximize the rewards we will earn for the next 6-months.
Of course, I have to wonder if the CSR that answered your message actually knew what he/she was talking about. As we often read here, CSRs do not always provide accurate answers where credit reporting is concerned. This may be a YMMV situation.
