Qualifying for bonus on CSP if I already have CS?

I was approved for a Chase Sapphire in February and received the $100 bonus. The only reason I applied for the Sapphire over the Sapphire Prefered was because I wasn't sure I could make the 3k spend in 3 months. I just moved into an aparment complex that takes Visa for rent payments with no fee, so now I could make the spend very easily. If I applied for the Sapphire Prefered in a few months and was approved, would I qualify for the bonus (if it still exists) or would I be considered an "existing cardholder" and therefore not qualify?

Good question? Would you be existing since its a Sapphire albeit not preffered. The terms and conditions should let you know..

You would qualify if you applied for the csp and was approved. You would not see any bonus if they convince you to "upgrade" or "product change" your regular sapphire into a csp.

+1.

CS and CSP are considered 2 different products.

They are two different products but when in doubt, make sure you read the T&C. For example the Chase Marriott and JP Morgan Ritz Carlton cards are two different products, but people who got the signup bonus on the Marriott card first are not eligible for the signup bonus on the JPM card. The interesting thing is that those who got the JPM Ritz card first (and its signup bonus) can still collect the signup bonus on the Marriott card. In this case the order matters.

Hey CS,

By JPM Ritz, do you mean the standard Ritz card? Or is there a JPMorgan version of it?

This is what you're referring to right? https://creditcards.chase.com/credit-cards/ritz-carlton-card.aspx

I was considering whether to get the Ritz and/or Marriot at the end of this year. Currently I'm staying at W hotels mostly but I'm considering switching sometime this year, if I still do not get approved for Amex.

Thanks for the heads up!

Yup, that's the one. It's advertised as a JPM product and has JPM (not Chase) on the back of the card. If you stay at the Ritz or Marriotts regularly, it can be an incredible deal. I think the Ritz is the superior card if you're able to use the benefits and don't mind the AF. The Marriott card offers a free annual night cert, but given that its for Cat 1-5 only its use can be quite limited for some. It does offer 15 nights credit annually, so if you are pushing for platinum or lifetime status it'll be a good choice. They've also quietly improved and added extra features to this card lately, which is definitely a plus.
