Question - Discover Card - Whats your limit

Just curious for all Discover cardholders.  How long have you had your card and what is your limit?  I have heard several times that Discover is not too good wth credit lines but I am hoping that this is subjectiveSmiley Very Happy

Re: Question - Discover Card - Whats your limit

My Discover Open Road is one month old and the CL is $6000.  First time I qualified for a Discover and was surprised that the CL was even that high.

Re: Question - Discover Card - Whats your limit

Discover did not seem to care that I had an Amex with a $10,000 limit or a Citi with a $17,500 limit. They insisted on giving me a measly $1,000 credit limit just because I was a student.

I've only had the card for 2 months, 3rd billing cycle is coming up soon and I will be asking for a CLI, though I highly doubt I'll get it. If they deny me I'll just keep calling every month from now on until they give me a credit line that's somewhat in line with my other cards. If it's still denied, I'll just throw the card in the sockdrawer after a year or so.

Starting Score: EQ 773, TU 766
Current Score (2/25/2017): EX 813, EQ 823, TU 818
Goal Score: 800

Are those your accounts or AU accounts?  Just curious.  That is the first I've heard of a 1k Discover.

Re: Question - Discover Card - Whats your limit

They started mine at 2K but at that time my highest TL was only 5K by Amex. So I figured they were doing a little less than half. Since then though I have much higher TL's.. It's ok though- cuz it's my "wallet card" (although that is going to change by next week- am paying last three off and stowing them away for next 6 mos) as I have some high med. bills to pay that I do NOT want to go to collection!!! Learned from the past!!!

Being self-employed, I feel ya.  the insurance doesn't pay a whole lot and just racked up charges from the urgent care clinic for a cast and treatment... all on my card.

Brammy, my Discover is also a $1000.00 card.  Just a regular ole Discover, not the student version.  I am not sure why but there it is.

Have you requested a limit increase? I was afraid that when I app'dthey would give me the HSBC version with a similar limit.  I think you may want to call, I understand their underwriting may have changed a little.

I have seen the Amex Sky miles spit out that type of limit but didn;t know Discover did.

Ahh that must be in I do believe the bank behind the Discover in my wallet is HSBC.  So that must be the difference.

If you app for reg. discover, you will get reg. Discover. You didn't app through any bank site did you? You app'd on the reg. Discover site correct? Also........ you can pick out just about any design you want for free and they send you an extra card!!

I'm getting the gut feeling they go by highest limit and then decide what to give you. I too, have heard of other's that had high Amex's and still started out w/ 2000, 3000, 5000. Even 1000. Point is- once you've got it- it should be only a matter of time before a CLI if you ask.
