Question For ANYONE with a Cap 1 CC

Hi Everyone,

I have a question concerning the way charges were posted to my new Cap 1 secured CC. I wanted to ask if this is normal or if anyone has had this happen or no...

I bought gas for $49 a few days ago. It showed under my "pending transactions" as you would expect. Then, yesterday, it showed $49 under pending still and $49 under "posted". Ok, I thought...it's just in the process of switching. However, it had my balance correct BUT my available credit down $49x2 (not just the $49).

I gave it a day. Today, it is no longer under "pending" but it STILL says my balance is $49 but my available is down $49x2. I called CSR for Cap 1 and spoke to someone who speaks English as a second language obviously. Anyway, he tried to explain to me that after midnight, it would be correct.

I just want someone to tell me this is normal and he is right. Also, is this going to happen every time I make a gas purchase...take it out for double the amount from my available credit until a day AFTER the pending goes away?

This is my first purchase on this new card. My other card from 1st Progressive has no issues like this at all.

Thanks in advance!

This is normal. The only way around it is to not use the POS pumps at the gas station and charge it inside the gas station register.

I wonder why it doesn't do that with the other card. I'll count it a blessing and designate that card as my "gas card" for now. lol

Thanks, LS!

Re: Question For ANYONE with a Cap 1 CC

I noticed different things with different cards. Now my CapOne 2% cash back is my preferred card. When I swipe it at the gas stations (I use mostly Shell) it puts pending $5 and then in few days it turns into Posted and a real amount. My HSBC Cards have $1 pending and then it posts real amount as well. My worst card was Fidelity Visa....pending $151 and then pending real amount and then few days later pending $151 dissapears and real amount is posted.

NFCU Visa Sig $30k / Amex Blue Cash $25.5k / Fidelity Amex $25k / Chase Freedom $14.5k / Citi Double Cash $5k / Capital One Quicksilver Visa Sig $5k / Citi Best Buy MC $3K / Barclay Rewards MC $2.95k / BOA - BBR $2.5k / SY Lowes $15k / SY Amazon $6k / Target RedCard - $300

Thanks guys. I feel better now. I'll just know to watch that card closely as it is a very VERY low CL at the moment lol

I myself prefer to pay cash at the pump, cause around here they want to charge another 10 cents per gallaon!

Different gas stations preauthorize with different amounts.   For me, I've seen $1, $40, $100.

So glad that doesn't happen around here, especially because gas is currently a 5% category on my Freedom.  Anyway, for me, my authorization has always been just $1, and I use several different gas stations.  I guess in the Pittsburgh area that is what they all do?
