I got "preselected to receive the BankAmericard Cah Rewards Platinum Plus Visa Secured" card in the mail in July. The request form is simple, it has my prior application information tracking on it as well as a few lines asking for BoA account number, DOB, SSN, Occupation, Phone number, Signature.
The thing is, I don't currently have a BoA checking or savings account. I had one prior to Bk in 2012, but it was closed due to overdraft. Is it a requirement to bank with BoA to have a credit card with them?
Fast forward to now, the online application to open a bank account won't even let me, claiming a prior issue with a bank account with them. Am I SOL with BoA as far as getting an account with them? I wanted the secured card as a way of rebuilding my credit, maybe having it turn into a larger CL in the future.
You don't need a bank account with them to get a credit card, but if they don't give you a bank account for past issues I don't know if they will approve you.
Maybe you can try by visiting a branch and if you are willing to burn a HP. Without a BoA account you will not get an extra 10% from the rewards you get. Good luck.
Good luck!

I called and they looked at my past accounts, two were IIB. She said one was still reporting to ChexSystems, even though they cleared it for me last year, so she started a dispute and told me to call back on Wed.
I think I'll open a savings account and a secured card, just to get started with BoA again, if they'll have me.
Perfect, I hope you get in with them.
Remember, you can add the Cash Rewards (travel rewards too?) to the regular secured card. Any CLI you request will be HP. You can put up to 10K on the secured card. If you put 5K or more, ask to change it to Visa Signature.

First, best of luck and hope it works out for you.
FYI - I had a co-worker in the past open an account with BOA after a similar overdraft situation. Once they funded the new account that BOA approved they went and reclaimed the funds that were lost in the prior overdraft. Not saying this will happen to you, just saying I know one case for a person who "got back in" with BOA and they were certainly surprised at the reclamation of funds.

Even if they confirmed it was discharged debt?

The only thing I can recall was they said a few years prior the account become overdrawn and then as such was closed by BOA.
In my experience, BoA has a loooooong memory.
Despite the limits I now have, I have had zero traction getting CLIs from them. My only negative with them is a 60-day late from 2007 that is no longer in my reports, but apparently still stokes the fires of rage in their actuarial tables.
