Question about Capital One CLI!!

So... By reading the forum I got the courage to request a CLI with my C1 card. I've been a cardholder for 7 years!! And my limit is still 750!! I've had my share of late payments in the past year due to medical leave but I've been current!! I was sent back a denial saying it was because 1- my credit score was too low (515)
2- because my account is past due
I was very confused when I received the letter because I wasn't past due and haven't had a late payment since September 2013 and from my credit monitoring thru usaa, my scores are all over 630!! So I called customer service and was told they wasn't able to override the denial but the kind rep did upgrade my account to a quicksilver. I was grateful because that was a benefit for me. I ask to speak to a manager so that I can get a better explanation of the denial. I received a smart a$$ that only read what I was reading off my paper!! He couldn't explain why the letter said I was past due when I wasn't and haven't been in over six months and he told me to contact equifax cause that was the score they gave them... I them contact the EO and was told that the computers generate the response and no human eyes are making decision. She then said that the EO will review and call me back. She called today and said that I would need to lift the fraud alert from all three agencies in order for them to pull my credit! In little words, the rep told me that my credit was never pulled from the first time when I requested a CLI. She advised me the only way I could get a CLI review is if I lift the fraud alert. I was a Victim of the target debacle and would like to keep my fraud alert on so what should I do??? Is that normal to be ask to lift the fraud alert? And is the fraud alert hurting or helping me when applying for credit??

I would not lift the FA in your circumstance, I would go into the CRAs system and put in a contact number with notation to call you to approve opening of new accounts. Cap-1 can get your reports with or without a FA or Freeze I think they want it to satisfy their own internal systems and I would just wait to get the CLI. A FA should not be hurting you in getting credit though it will stop all auto approvals and you will have to confirm you actually apped for the credit.

SAY WHAT? it's VERY common to be asked to remove a fraud alert if you want new credit, credit line increase, etc.  the whole point of the EO cap1 is that you are asking them to do a sp of a NEW fresh report and look at it with eyes instead of the computer system... I understand the facts that a current creditor "should" be able to go around a FA because that's what FA tell us but the fact is most can not (at least at the level we deal with or the computer systems they use to access credit) I have never had a creditor get around a FA rather I was a current cardholder or not. Just lift your FA for 7 days and call back into Cap1 and tell them you have removed the FA from your EQ for 7 days.

also when you say you were a victom of the target stuff, did they just use one of your credit cards and now that's been reissued with a new account number... I find FA for the most part to be a pain in the rear and you are seeing why... target provided free monitoring... just use that and then you don't need the fa.

**but on a side note I'm sorry to say but having lates just 6 months ago on the card you want an increase on and a credit score just above 600 (your monitoring are fakos and cap1 will use a fico of some sort which will probably be way lower as you were told in your letter... what was the date of the credit score used? it's on the letter)

if it's in the last month or so than I would save yourself the trouble and expense and not bother lifting the fraud alert because $750 cl is higher for cap1 especially with recent baddies.

Re: Question about Capital One CLI!!

I know it might cost some money, but I'd just remove it for now and put it back on later or do a temporary lift if they allow it. It is odd that Capital One said that you'd need to lift it in order for them to see your credit though -- I thought that wasn't necessary for a lender you're already in bed with so to speak.
