I recently applied for and was approved for a Chase Freedom card. I am attracted to the rewards program and I PIF every month.
After applying, I started reading on the forums that this reports as a signature card. Is this true? When I read the terms and conditions, I saw nothing about it being a signature card. Additionally, I called the Chase application status phone number, and it stated my credit limit is $5000 on the card. If it states a credit limit, does that mean it is not a signature card? I'd rather not deal with all the reporting issues associated with having a signature card.
Any feedback is appreciated!
JSmitty, I would like to share my experience with you.
I have Chase Freedom Master Card. It is Non-Signature card. One day, I received a letter from Chase and it said that I'm loyal customer and my Freedom Master Card has been upgraded to World Master Card benefit. There was a new Freedom Card with "World" on the below of MasterCard logo included in the envelop. Since then, it's CL does not show on my CR. But it did not affect to my score ... this is in my case.
Did someone say Chase Freedom Signature card? Visa (not sure about MC) is pushing these heavily these days. They are also pushing business cards (with rewards) heavily in order to get around the new CC laws.
What is a signiture card?
A signiture card is a Visa card with no preset spending limit. It has a few benefits that go along with it also. The big down side though is that it doesn't report a limit to the CRA's. Instead of a limit, it reports the highest balance ever previously reported. So it's benefit for credit building purposes can be limited . See http://usa.visa.com/personal/visa-signature/index.jsp
MC has a similar product called a World Card, see http://www.mastercard.com/us/personal/en/aboutourcards/credit/world_card.html
