I can attest that FNBO is inquiry sensitive. I have tried since day one to get the Sheetz card and continiously get declined due to inquiries. I even know some of the Sheetz brothers personally as I grew up/went to school with them in their hometown and still can't get brownie points with FNBO, even with Sheetz help.

The thing is, the Sheetz card is one that I would always PIF because their APR is astounding, like 21.99% if you wouldn't PIF. So, other than getting the discount on the gas and inside purchases the card is pretty worthless. I just want the card's 5 cents off, in addition to the Sheetz card 3 cents. I don't want a $10K CL with them and keep paying minimum amounts each month and get interest racking up on me. Too bad they're associated with FNBO.

Just a suggestion, instead of a dedicated Sheetz card, why not look into a card with gas rewards? 3% or 5% back on gas will often come out to more than 5 cents off per gallon, anyway.

You don't sound that enthused about the card and you don't want to get you'll later regret/want to close. I recall awhile back you posted about wanting to pare down; does this addition really add enough value to make sense?

Good question. I have Sheetz gas stations all over the place, so they are very convenient, plus they have excellent food for a gas station. I do have my BJ's card that gives me 10 cents off per gallon, but it's not always convenient to get there when my truck says the gas is "E". Plus you get rewards inside when you make purchases. That's the reasoning behind the Sheetz card.

I agree with the comment about the Sheetz food.  Sheetz is one of about three things I miss about the Least Coast Smiley Wink

As for the APR, I feel the same way about just about all of the FNBO products.  High APR, but great rewards (8% off on Overstock?  Even though I don't shop there, I WANT that card, and would shop there.  I even considered the secured card).  But Discover (1st Q), Freedom (? I think, isn't it 2nd Q), and Sams Club (all year) all offer 5% cash back on gas (which is around 10 cents a gallon now, and even more if/when gas goes up again).  SteelCity, do you have a BJs MC/Visa or a store card?  I am 99% sure that both Sams and Costco give nice cash back at ANY gas station, so if your BJs is MC/Visa, you might want to check if they offer something similar.

I do have a BJ's Mastercard (Comenity) card that gives me 10 cents off per gallon. It's about 15 minutes away, and we have two Sheetz within 5 minutes from my house, so that's why I wanted to get the 5 cents from a Sheetz Visa card in addition to their own 3 cents off w/o a credit card.

Sorry, I don't think I was clear.  Sams/Costco offers cash back at ANY gas station (except you don't get cash back buying gas at Costco and paying with the Sams card...they frown on that for some reason Smiley Wink ).  So, you might want to check and see if the BJs cash back is good at ANY gas station (and thus you can use it at Sheetz), or if it only works at BJs.

If BJs doesn't work like this, a better option might be going for the Sams MC/Costco Visa.

Re: Question about Inquiries

most lenders won't care much for inquires past 12 months. If they do, there is most likely another problem with your credit file altogether.

Unfortunately BJs only gives the 10 cents off at BJs gas stations Smiley Sad

Umm, no the credit file is just fine. There were INQs the past 6 months only because we refinanced our mortgage and I financed my Tacoma, and got two CCs for the 0% APR. I have about $150k in available credit and 2% usage. Never a late payment and my oldest CC is 21 years old and the AAoA is 6 years. All 3 of the reporting agencies had me above or nearly 800 until the INQs and the refinance. They've all jumped up about 10 points the past 3 weeks. Sheetz card is NOT a must for me, just was throwing out there the possibility of applying since there is zero impact after a year, however a lot of the INQs were as a result of an app spree last April. I merely wanted to know if those are going to actually be a year old in the big 3 now or maybe the 13th month after the INQ.

For TU and EQ, the INQ is considered a year old the day after the exact date of the INQ. EX tends to count them as 1 year old the 1st day of the following month.
