Do you have to be a full member with them to be eligible for their credit products? I have a membership number but my dad is dragging his feet on signing up for an insurance product so I am not all the way "in" yet. Anybody know?
If you have a member number, you can do whatever you want!
That's the beauty of USAA. Once you're in, you're in for good. Good luck with your apps!
I don't recall exactly what required full membership and what does not but if you attempt to apply the site will let you know if you're not eligible. You can also always call and verify.
Thank you both for your responses.

Not exactly, certain conditions do not allow full members access to certain products i.e; Living abroad will not allow a member to have access to insurance or investment products until they return stateside.
This is incorrect, I'm overseas in Italy..
1. I have USAA insurance..It's through USAA LTD...subsidiary of USAA, but it's USAA.
2. If you have a FPO/APO/DPO address you can do 99% of the investment products.
3. I got a credit card with a FPO address, you can't apply online though.

Well you are right since you have a military address. Military Post is considered living stateside anyway. Im speaking about those who actually live in a foreign country with a foreign address like me.
I can apply for CC's online BTW.

I can give you a direct answer...
Like you, my own father has never purchased a policy with them, so I'm still not eligible to buy a policy myself. However, 18 months ago I received an 'offer' for one of their Visa cards and was approved (and I've received an auto-CLI since then as well).
The only thing that is out of reach for me is an insurance policy... credit and bank accounts are no problem. ![]()
