Question about changing PRG to Platinum

Have had the PRG for 3 months and have realized that I should have just applied for the platinum as it has some benefits that fit my travel needs.  Can I cancel the PRG now and get the Platinum (I realize I wouldn't get the MR bonus points)? Do I need to cancel the PRG first or I can just keep it until the new AF comes up?  Or lastly do I need to wait the year out before I can even apply for the Platinum?

Re: Question about changing PRG to Platinum

I didn't do this, but I somewhat remember seeing an option to upgrade to a plat amex from prg. You are not going to get the bonus again and since it is a charge not a revolver I do not see a benefit to having both. Therefore a PC seems like the best move. I'm sure they will be more than happy to take your money for the additional AF.

Re: Question about changing PRG to Platinum

You can have a Business Rewards Gold and a Business Platinum at the same time and you will get both minimum spend bonuses. I asked a chat rep this a while back when I was deciding if I wanted to get a Business or Personal Platinum since I already have Business Rewards Gold. I think you can get the personal Platinum while your PRG is open, so you could keep it until your AF comes due. The one year thing only comes into play if you are looking to upgrade rather than apply for the Platinum and normally they will give you some MR point incentive at the 1 year mark to offset the larger AF.

I logged on to confirm with a chat rep for you, but they are all busy right now.

Thanks for trying.  Yeah under ideal situations Id wait the year out and see what they gave to offer for an upgrade but I'm going to Las Vegas at least times during the year and I want access to the Centurion lounge.  Been stuck at LAS too many times.  I can get in a lounge now with the Ritz card but from what I understand the Centurion lounges are well above the other lounges in quality. Idiot me I should have just applied for the platinum in the first place.

Re: Question about changing PRG to Platinum

You're good to go. Just apply for the Platinum. Keep the PRG until AF is due, you'll be awarded the minimum spend bonus.

Wow, I didn't think they would do that.  Appreciate you checking for me.  Didn't mean for you to do my legwork 😃. Thanks!

Re: Question about changing PRG to Platinum

40k MR would be acceptable bonus if first AF was waived.

I'll have to work on that with them.

I've used the Centurion Lounge at LAS at least 10 times since it opened and I have to say it's better than most...Hope it works out for you
