Re: Question about discover/dinersclub

Thats actually a very good question, do you know for sure the country doesnt take Discover or is that what Discover is to them? Like can people apply for Discover or if they do is it Diners Club. If that makes sense, because i wonder if your Discover will just be considered Diners Club.

in that country people don't know what discover is, they don't take discover they don't issue discover cards but dinerclud is accepted everywhere. if dinersclub is running overthere i guest is for discover card holders who travel there  because the dinerclub card is now using the mc network. i been there a few times but back then i did not have a discover card

It appears that you should be able to use your Discover card anywhere you see the Diner's Club International signage, but you might want to check Discover's site just to verify:

Re: Question about discover/dinersclub

Diners club that uses mc network were there before discover purchase. There good but back to question. If you see diners club  signage. Then your discover is good to good. You already know that discover it now places diners club emblem on card. As to eliminate confusion.

Actually, Discover's world map is not exhaustive.

I recently inquired via SM about Discover being honored in India through the Diner's Club network. The rep came back and said yes it could be used. However they advised me to carry more than one method of payment just in case. Good thing is there's no FTF. The map doesn't show India being under the Discover network.

I wonder if the category bonuses are awarded as well.

There are two types of Diners Club,

* Diners Club US

Basically a MasterCard. Used to be issued by Citi, now issued by BMO.

* Diners Club International

This is the one purchased by Discover.

As for acceptance, if a store says they accept Diners Club International then Discover card can be used. Be aware that some stores are using older terminal (before Discover purchase), and these terminals don't know how to accept Discover card.

Re: Question about discover/dinersclub

When I travel internationally, I never have any luck using my Discover card regardless if a merchant accepts Diners Club or not.  When I first got my Discover card, I was excited about the no foreign transaction fee option.

However, once I began attempting to utilize the card internationally, I was quickly dissapointed.  I now either use my Citi (no foreign transaction fee) or AMEX (2.7%  foreign exchange fee).

Re: Question about discover/dinersclub

I was told by Discover that it is accepted where Diner's is accepted as well (overseas).  Nothing was said to me about taking an alternate card, but that's just common sense.  When I go to Paris next month I intend to take my Discover, Amex, and a Visa.  I will make note of any place in France that says it accepts Diner's but does not accept my Discover and will notify Discover of the denial.

Experian Score: 689--Amex 27 July 2014; Equifax Score 680--MyFICO--17 September 2014; TransUnion Score 718-Discover 20 August 2014--PUH-RAISE JESUS, I finally broke 700!!! Cards and Credit Lines: Escape by Discover, Chase Freedom Signature Visa, Chase United MileagePlus Explorer Signature Visa, Chase Sapphire Preferred Signature Visa, Barclay's Holland America Visa, Citibank Custom Credit Line, Paypal Custom Connect Credit Line, Bloomingdale's, Macy's Premier Elite, Amazon Store Card, Lord & Taylor, Nordstrom, Discover It, Gold Delta SkyMiles from American Express, PayPal BML.

Just say you got a diners club it should work. But always have backup. As you are doing.
