I recently took AmEx up on their offer to upgrade from EveryDay to EveryDay Preferred in exchange for 40K MR points after $2K spend. I have the 40K points in my account now. I will expect an additional 20K+ after i hit the 30 purchases threshold in a week or so.

Like 20k points from the 50% multiplier on the 40k bonus or just from spending?

20K from the multiplier, plus whatever else I get from spending. I've diverted a good bit of my normal spend here in order to maximize this multiplier this month.

A 1.5 multiplier on the 40k MR Upgrade bonus points? hmmmm..... haven't ever heard of this one.

$40,000 spend in the 30 day period to get a 20,000 MR point accelerator on the spend, yeah you can do that every month.

50% Extra Points Benefit

How the Benefit Works

If you make 30 or more separate purchases of goods or services in a billing period with your Amex EveryDay® Preferred Credit Card ("Card"), you earn 50% extra Membership Rewards points on those purchases less returns and credits with a date in that billing period. A transaction where you buy multiple items counts as one purchase. Eligible purchases can be made by the Basic Card Member and any Additional Card Members on a single Card Account. Purchases do not include fees or interest charges, cash advances, purchases of travelers checks, purchases or reloading of prepaid cards, purchases of gift cards; person-to-person payments or purchases of other cash equivalents.

This benefit will not apply to any limited time promotions and offers (such as a Welcome Bonus).

(I got the same upgrade offer and I'm not going to bother trying to hit 30. I'll meet the spend requirement at some point, SD the card, and switch back to the easy 4x with Gold.)

Personal spend: Amex Gold, Amex Schwab Plat., BofA PR+CCR(x2), Costco
Business use: Amex Bus. Plat., BBP, Lowes Amex AU, CFU AU
Perks: Delta Plat., United Explorer, IHG49, Hyatt, "Old SPG"
Mostly SD: Freedom Flex, Freedom, Arrival
Upgrade/Downgrade games: ED, BCE
SUB chasing: AA Platinum Select

Well, I want the extra points to upgrade our seats on our upcoming trip. Thirty transactions is a lot, so I have been using it for small amounts to meet the 30 transaction requirement. After this, I’ll go back to normal usage of the card.

Is there a way I can find out how many points will be required to upgrade before I transfer the points?

I know that you posted a "never mind" right after this, but it's important to note that upgrading with miles is tied to the cash difference between the fares with Delta.  There are exceptions, but generally this will work out to 1.1 cents per SkyMile.  If there is say a $330 price difference between your fare and First today, then usually Delta would give you the option of using about 30,000 SkyMiles.  However pricing changes daily, often dramatically.  That same 30k could drop to 20k tomorrow or could be 100k as check-in approaches.

Also, I can't tell if it's clear to you that the 50% multiplier on EDP for 30+ transactions only applies to the normal earnings, and not to any additional earnings from upgrade offers or Amex Offers.  The only way you would earn an additional 20k bonus miles from the 50% multiplier is if you would have earned 40k MRs organically during the current statement period - some combination between spending $6,000 at grocery stores and $11,000 at gas stations (AFAIK gas stations are not capped, and this $17k is the least spend possible to hit 40k MRs earned), or $40,000 this statement period elsewhere.  If you just did the $2000 spend to earn the upgrade bonus, and those transactions were all base 1x earnings, your 50% bonus would be 1000 Membership Rewards points, giving you a total of 43k points including the 40k bonus.

Ugh! Didn't realize that, as I wasn't clear on it. I've got about $3K spend on it so far this month. I'll abandon my plan, because I'm not spending $40K, nor $6K at the grocery store. In order to spend $11K at gas stations, I'd have to drive around the country a couple of times this month. *smh* I've been spending these miniscual amounts to get to 30 transactions. MRs aren't that important in my everyday life, so I'll revert back to my normal pattern and return you fine folks to your regularly scheduled program.

Re: Question about transferring AmEx MR points to Travel Partner

If you already booked the basic tickets for cash ( if I understood correctly ) then your SkyMiles Delta account, trip management, should present you with the available methods to upgrade the seats. That should tell you how much to get to Comfort Plus, or First Class.

Yep, I found that out after signing up for a SkyMiles account. Thanks, @NRB525!
