Question as new AMEX Everyday Cardholder

Friends,

Some background:

As of right now I apparently have one line of credit open (an amex everyday card that I was approved for last night online), my question is two-fold: (1) how can I get the card rushed from Amex and (2) I am traveling this summer at an address that is not my home address (my mail is being forwarded) will they send it to me at the address I am staying at? Overall, what is the best way to accomplish these two things?

Some background:

I am back to using credit cards after a brief flirtation with the Dave Ramsey program (no debt, paid for house), in the past I have had an cancelled AmexPlat, Amex Delta Reserve and Amex Blue Cash Everyday. I am worried that I will call and ask for a rush on this new card and they will cancel me (is that an unrealistic fear?) I just don't want to set off any alarm bells and want the re-entry into Amex to go off without a hitch. I am already approved online, I got a screen that said the new card is on its way to me, but I haven't received any confirmation email from Amex or anything so I am a bit jittery. Can you help?

Eventually, want to get back to four no annual fee cards (something like Amex Everyday, Chase Freedom, Citi Simplicity and Discover IT), what is the best process for getting there?

Thank you, Peter

Re: Question as new AMEX Everyday Cardholder

I believe you have to wait 10 days after the original delivery date and then you can request for your card to be overnighted to you. AMEX gave me a hard time with this back in May and I, too, were traveling. I'd recommend giving them a call to confirm what your process would be. Good luck and congratulations on your approval!

Re: Question as new AMEX Everyday Cardholder

Personally I think that asking to have a new credit card rush delivered to an address where you don't reside ( and probably wasn't stated on the application) will set off all sorts of alarm bells within Amex.  But you can always call or contact them via secure chat and ask.  For security purposes they prefer to send via U.S. mail to your home address; this is particularly true for new member accounts.

Re: Question as new AMEX Everyday Cardholder

I recall a thread from another person who was approved for a new Amex card, and after they called and asked for the card to be shipped to a different address, Amex shut them down and refused to give them an account at all. Makes sense I guess, because of fraud etc. If you have mail forwarding in place then I assume it would just get forwarded to your new address. After your card is received and activated, you can probably then change the address online with no hassle but it may still raise a red flag, but less of a red flag than calling to get the address changed before it even arrives.

I don't think there's any good way to accomplish those 2 things.

Re: Question as new AMEX Everyday Cardholder

Have a trusted co-worker, friend or relative keep an eye on your mail and have them overnight the card. Problem solved and AMEX doesn't get weirded out by your request.

Data point: When I bought a new house and had my mail forwarded, anything bank-related was returned to sender. When I called one bank (don't recall which one) to say I hadn't received my card, I was informed that they had gotten it back, that they don't forward CCs, and they reissued me another one (different CC #) after I sent proof of new address.

Re: Question as new AMEX Everyday Cardholder

I would not want AMEX to forward my new credit card to another address.

Sorry this is so complicated OP, but it is actually in your best interest that the card not be forwarded. You told them on the application where they could find you. Changing that address now will confuse them and cause problems for your account.

Re: Question as new AMEX Everyday Cardholder

Thank you all. I'm holding tight and not doing anything for now, will see what if anything I do when the ten days has elapsed.

Appreciate the advice.
