If you were to get a CLI with the card SD it would indicate they are trying to get you to use it

I have not seen the SD method used specifically for getting a CLI. Generally, it is for a card with no AF that you do not want to use due to poor rewards or what not. If, coincidentally, you get a CLI, then that is just them saying 'Please use this card'

Re: Question for the experts

It costs a CC company money to have you as a cardholder, and thus it makes sense for them to try to lure you into using the card more.

I have a CC that I put a monthly charge of $10 on, and they've started sending me BT checks.

Never heard of putting the card in the sock drawer as a method of obtaining a CLI.

Odd.

+1 on this. I think it's a misunderstanding to think people SD their cards in hopes of getting CLIs. You might get a CLI from some companies who are trying to get you to use the card. You'd be just as likely to get a CLD or have the card closed by the grantor if you SD'd it and didn't periodically use it for something.
