Question on BOA Product Change

My 99/500 card graduated couple of days ago. I called BOA to see if they would change it to a different product that has no AF and rewards to it. CSR says, the card can not be changed and I have to reapply for a new card if I want to any thing different.

What is your experience dealing with BOA? Does any have any back door number to call and request for the product change.

If they dont change it I'll wait till September when the renewal is due, and I'll close the account. When I have 2 cards from Citi with over $15K CL each there is no way I am keeping a BOA card with $1k CL and then pay $29 AF for it. As far as I am concerned BOA can keep their card. Not worth it for me.

Re: Question on BOA Product Change

I wanted to go from my BOA Visa to the Amex.  I was told twice that I had to apply for the amex. On my third try, the CSR said sure.  Card came in about a month.  Dont believe what they said!

Re: Question on BOA Product Change

I had a 99/500. After it graduated, they changed it to BOA GOLD VISA CARD. It had no rewards or anything. On Friday afternoon I called to convert my card to a Platinum Plus , since they had offered it me through an application with my checking statement.  The lady I spoke to said no you have to apply for it.  On Saturday I called back & was told Sure, you will receive your card in about 3 wks. I'd just say call back & speak to someone else. Key term to use is "Convert your card"

Re: Question on BOA Product Change

Keyword is actually product change CSR called it a "PCU". If one says no call another they will product change you and keep your history. Which products you are eligible to change to depends on many factors.

Internal history
Credit Reports/Score
Your Current CL

They have so many products that you can nab one with no AF pretty easily. The affiliate co-branded cards are special and can cause problem trying to swap to/from these.

e.g. NFL card, Bass Pro Shops, etc

I also had better luck on calling on Saturday.
Other times, I get the same message - "apply for a new card" or "We cannot upgrade/convert/change your current card" or "Sir, I am not understanding what your request is."

Re: Question on BOA Product Change

A few months ago, I tried to get my husbands card changed over from a regular visa with no points to the new amex from boa but they said that they couldn't do that unless you received some sort of approval letter in the mail but they did change it to the world points visa. I called the backdoor number

Re: Question on BOA Product Change

When my card unsecured, I attempted a product change and was told "no" numerous times.  The only option I was given was to convert to a "Platinum Plus with Worldpoints."  I was told by the last CSR that I could not convert to certain cards until I had a least a $5K limit.  I have since achieved that, but I haven't tried to product change since then.  Maybe I'll test that theory...
