Re: Question on applying for multiple cc's at once.

This sounds right. Don't go any further right now. Take the 1 or maybe two that you got and coast awhile.

Ok I will let you know how things go. The Chase Freedom app needs to be reviewed. (Does anyone know how long this takes?) The Discover Open Road was instantly approved. Just curious.. how come Amex and Discover can instantly approve, but for Chase you have to wait?

Good information here. What is meant by "recon #," and also, any advice on what to say to Chase once I have them on the phone? Thanks for your help guys.

you didn't mention BofA.  You can go on their website and get a pre-approval status which is not an app but just to see where you stand.  If they have something for you then you can apply.

I wouldn't apply for anything else. I'd wait a little bit. But, def. call chase, chase loves to actually speak to people. There are a good number of folks on this forum that were approved after receiving that wait message when applying.  They will ask you a bunch of questions, job, household income, about your other credit cards, etc. and if they feel confident with your answers the credit analyst will "recommend you for $X CL"...which basically means they are approving you for that amount.

Re: Question on applying for multiple cc's at once.

Thanks for the tip on calling. I just talked to Chase a bit ago. The lady on the phone is recommending me for $2500 credit limit. Now I have some questions. All three of the cards have been approved for around $2000-$3000, but I feel my income warrants a higher limit. I asked the lady at Chase about this and she says this is because I only have a Macy's card with a $500 limit currently showing. First I guess is what are the factors and how are they weighted when determining your credit line, and second, she did not mention the Amex or Discover showing so I am curious about how long before the cards even appear on my credit report? Thanks!

Re: Question on applying for multiple cc's at once.

Income is a factor, but I believe they do heavily rely on the CLs of your other credit cards. Also, payment history is a big one.  If the only thing showing on your reports right now is that Macy's card, you're doing very well. I had a hard time getting Chase to approve for $1K a few months back and this is with a few years of perfect payments history on other cards as well.

Discover reported quickly for me, they were on my credit reports before I got the card. Though, others have reported waiting up to a month or two, or even longer with other cards. It just depends on the company and their reporting habits. No way to know for sure.
