So I just cancelled my AX Plat Amerprise a few days prior to having the AF hit. As some of you known this card comes with a 0 AF for the first year (No bonus) making it a great way to experience Plat benefits without the AF. My wife was just approved for the AX Plat Amerprise and I will be an AU on her account. We will then go through the same proccess in 2020 with my re-applying for the card. Not sure how long this will last, but in case it does not work I am wondering if I would still be eligible for the regular AX Plat bonus as I have never had that card before. My wife had it a long time ago and I was an AU only. Does anybody know the answer to this one. No problem with my getting approved now as I already have 4 other AX cards 3 personal and 1 business.
Correct I have never had the Vanila Plat card version. Only as an AU under my wifes account.

I hope that you're aware that you will not receive the bonus that may exist on the Ameriprise version if you do in fact apply for the card again and are approved.
There is no signup bonus for the Amerprise version. That is why there is no AF for the first year.

In the past, just not as frequent, there have been some targeted SUBs. Definitely not as lucrative as Schwab, Morgan Stanley or even the standard Platinum version, but I think in your case they'd be negligible since it appears it's a 'rinse and repeat' process.
The only thing that I can think of, highly speculative but one never knows, is the possibility that their internal systems may eventually 'flag' the Ameriprise repeat behavior and not award the SUB.
I realize that Fin Star and that is the price of playing this game. But after a few years of having no AF will certainly offset not getting a bonus.

Good luck on your upcoming AmEx Plat application!
I thought the highest ever bonus on the Ameriprise Plat was 25K anyway, right? Given that that's the case, one year's AF should be more than worth not getting that bonus.
Edited to ask: Does anyone know if having the Ameriprise Plat lowers your chances of getting the 100K vanilla Plat offer?
