I have had the Macys card for years, a couple of years ago it got upgraded to the Amex version. I remember when it was being upgraded I had a message saying they couldn't do much with the card because it was being upgraded. Now I have the same message but it says "Your Macy's American Express is currently being upgraded to your New Macy's American Express". Does anyone know what the upgrade would be? I messaged them and they just said it is in the process of being upgraded. Just curious. Thanks
Did you spend $1200+ at Macy's last year? Could be referring to an upgrade to the Platinum one?
I did actually, but I have had this notice for a couple months now and I just barely made the $1200 at the end of December. It is a possibility though.
Most likely that is it. It took months after I got my card and spent that much before I actually received the Platinum upgrade in the mail. Even all of my emails from them for months after still referred to my Silver status.
Give it a few days and check again online, as @K-in-Boston mentioned upthread, if the Platinum level upgrade occured, you'd see the AmEx CC icon reflect the new status. Your Macy's Star Rewards online profile should reflect the status as well.
My Macy's Store Card is one of my oldest accounts. Last year I successfully CLI'd my account to the $25K (non-POI) max. I have never been offered an "upgrade" to the AMEX version and was always under the impression I would have to "apply" for that card and in my circumstance, a second card.
Curious....have you all seen/received upgrades before as the OP mentioned or did you pursue/request this and it was granted?
From a "Rewards" perspective, Yes I am at Platinum Level and was recently notified my "status" would carry over to 2021.

From what I've seen, the upgrades to the AmEx version is something that is by invite or basically displays on the account at some point. If you request the upgrade via agent, they'll tell you it'll be a separate application for the AmEx, so most folks seem to wait since there's no HP involved.
There aren't any conclusive DPs on what triggers the upgrade, such as age, usage, internal metrics, targeted marketing campaigns, etc.
I think it was in 2018 or 2019 they sent me a letter in the mail said something along the lines of Congratulations your Macy's card is being upgraded to the Macy's American Express. It took about 6 months from the time I got the letter to the time I got the card. But it was automatic. Don't know how to trigger the upgrade, but I did not ask for it. It was an invite.

Thanks @FinStar and Thanks @JB2 for your replies. I appreciate that and will keep an eye out for the opportunity
