Quicksilver mc is sub prime as it is still considered a builder card as you need fair to good credit to get approved. Whereas the Quicksilver Visa Card you need excellent credit.

I'm sorry, but this is just not true. You cannot apply for a Quicksilver MC - it is only given by upgrading from the Platinum or Quicksilver One, and you can only do so once your credit is "Good to Excellent" according to Capital One. It isn't exactly easy to do - I was approved for a Venture, Quicksilver and Venture One, months before my QS1 was eligible to be upgraded to QS.

Re: Quicksilver One upgrade to Quicksilver?

Hi everyone, just wanted to give my experience on upgrading from a quicksilver one to quicksilver visa signature. My original credit card with capital one was the platinum card (Visa), which I had a MMF of $5 on, and I had gotten that card maybe 7-8 years ago. So had a pretty good history with Capital One.

A couple years ago I had upgraded to the quicksilver one, which still carried over that MMF, but was a VISA and not a MC. Credit line was at $6k. Got bumped up to 10k without doing a CLI request at the end of 2015.

Then about two weeks ago, I started my quest to get a PC on the card to quicksilver visa signature version, to eliminate that MMF and bump up to signature. Tried the online chat, no go. Tried calling the regular help line, still no go. Both stated I had no available offers at this time which was a bummer.

Finally contacted the EO via email this past thursday explaining my situation (wanting to get rid of MMF, bump up to signature, said that this was my main card and didn't want to have to get another card that had 'better' perks). Well I just got a call this morning from the EO, and they were able to complete my request Smiley Happy I'll be receiving the new card in 5 biz days, and even shorter than that I'll be receiving the perks of signature, and the best thing of all is finally getting rid of the MMF!!!

So in short, it's definitely possible to do a PC from a quicksilver one (Visa) to a quicksilver (Visa Signature) and get rid of the annual fee/MMF, I had a great history with capital one with no late payments and high enough CL to warrant the PC I guess.

Excellent data point... thanks for sharing!

Also, it's not too often we hear about someone having a Quicksilver One Visa... I think this is only the second or third time I've heard of one myself!  Smiley Very Happy

Re: Quicksilver One upgrade to Quicksilver?

I have what most would call piss poor credit haha.  I applied for both the quicksilver1 and platinum card a little over a month ago when my scores were barely over 600 on myfico.  Since then High UT on my other cards during statement cut dates caused this score to go down.  Anyway, within a month I called and got my Platinum upgraded to a Quicksilver with 0 issue.  My credit being sub 600's at this point and I also have a couple year old charge off with Cap1 still.  I dont think score has anyhting to do with the PC.

Im gonna agree to disagree here as just because its an upgrade card does not mean it is not sub prime...
Subprime can be defined as a high interest card, high af, and credit needed to be approved.

I have never heard of an excellent credit Subprime Card. As in Quicksilver Visa, which you cannot upgrade from Quicksilver MC

If you don't mind, define high interest? I guess most my cards are subprime. As most rewards cards interest is high
