Random US Bank call

Hi I was wondering if anyone has experienced the same thing before. Thanks!

Okay I know I'm probably being paranoid saying this but do banks just call and ask how you are doing? I got a call from an 800 number and it was a US Bank representative asking if he could speak to me. I say sure, what's going on and the representative tells me that the call is being recorded. I felt that it's pretty standard so I said okay.

It just felt weird. He asks blantly, "So how are you liking the credit card?" "It's good. I like using it." "So you only had the card a few months...... but I wanna know if there's more we can do. APR reduction? Anything at all? Are you happy?" "Yes." "Well I hope you like the card. Have a good day."

I just felt odd. I got concerned because of the inquiries I assimilated these last 3 months. Around 8 or so. I know they can be conservative. Had anyone ever had a bank just randomly call them? Maybe it was just the tone of the conversation.

Anyways. I just needed to share that and ask if people had similar experiences. Thanks for your time!

Re: Random US Bank call

I recieved a similar call from them after I opened my first card. They may also call you if you visit their auto/mortgage loan page.

Re: Random US Bank call

I get calls whenever I try their preapproval link for credit cards. So nothing out of ordinary for getting call from themy. Usually it will be their online department that calls customers.

Re: Random US Bank call

US Bank calls me all the time.  They just like to check in and will offer my deals that I just can't get online.

I can't seem to get anything online (not even a small CLI), but it seems that every time they call me, I end up with something good (0% APR card, LOC, etc).  I actually saved their number in my contacts to ensure that I can grab the phone whenever they call.

Re: Random US Bank call

Get the calls myself and they come around June under the umbrella of a banking checkup but, they really want me to take out a US Bank HELOC. My success with US Bank has been sitting in a Personal Banking Representative's Office where they process my requests. Seems to get me good approvals every time.

Re: Random US Bank call

I've had my Cash+ card since May/June of this year, but I have never received any calls thus far from US Bank.  Possibly could be due to the fact that my initial app for the Cash+ was denied and only approved on recon, albeit with only a $500 SL?

Also:  I thought I had read earlier on the forum that similar to Chase, US Bank doesn't consider or grant APR reduction requests?  Or has something changed regarding their policy on APR reduction requests, to allow greater flexibility?

They have not granted any of my requests for APR reduction, other than temporary minor reductions. On the other hand, you may be getting BT offers for a 4% fee, so there's that.

Back to the OP question, US Bank called me in 2009, after I had a mortgage with them for a year, to give me a basic rewards card, while I had oodles of open balances and high utilization on all cards. Then they called me in 2011 to give me a Cash+ card when I did not respond to their mail offers to PC the first card to Cash+. They have called on a couple other occasions, once after I'd run the first card up to $4k - $5k and was carrying interest costs. Asked me to make some significant payments to bring it down, which I did. Other calls just to check on how things are going, whether I need anything else.

Re: Random US Bank call

Thank you for the chimes everyone. I tought they wanted to just "check in" because of my 8+ inquiries since getting the card in November.

They seem like a good bank to be doing business with. Most my other banks haven't called me or offered me anything via a phone call. I usually get offers through email. I'm hoping they will have a Gold Checkings Offer (Bonus) so I can bank with them so that I can deposit my rewards rather than having statement credit. I know it's basically the same thing, but I just like having the reward dollars directly deposited. Come on US Bank send those coupons out!!

Re: Random US Bank call

I love USBank. They are very good to ppl who have a banking relationship in addition to a credit card. Open a savings if you don't have one. Watch the pre-approvals come in then. Smiley Happy
