People have done this a lot, for rewards, when it is referred to as churning.   Issuers have started enacting stricter policies, and Chase is one these, where you will only receive a bonus one time for a particular card.

However, for slate, there often isn't a sign up bonus as such, more BT offers etc, and these they may allow

Oh so it's not unusual to apply for a card you've already opened and closed? For some reason I was thinking the mindset is, "Been there, done that one...on to the next/newest, baddest card".

Very common on the big bonus cards, such as CSP (no longer possible) and Citi AA Exec (and Citi are clamping down too).    The mindset doesn't apply because people aren't interested in the card per se, just the bonus.   ANd they want it as many times as they can!

is chase following amex witht that policy or is it one bonus every two years or so ?

Re: Re-applying for a closed card?

I believe Chase was first.  One bonus per card ever.  As said earlier, there are cases where cards were issued as MC and as Visa, and each counts separately, but that is going away too.

Oh  I could care less about the points on the card probably won't charge a lot on it ... $85 dollars for a Free night every year is worth it imo

Re: Re-applying for a closed card?

For what it's worth, I just closed both of my Capital One cards (QS, VentureOne) a few days ago, in my quest to simplify my cache of cards.  The CSR did inform me that I would be most welcome to REOPEN either card at any time in the future!  Like many members of these Forums, while I am grateful to CapOne for helping me to revitalize my previously screwed up credit, I don't think I'll be reapplying for one of their cards anytime soon . . . !
