Really Discover...C'mon Already!

Discover does require a lot of patience. If your account is 6 months old, it hasn't been open long enough to achieve the CLI results you hope for. I understand you have placed a lot of spend on the card, but in Discover's eyes, you are too new to them to move the CLI forward at this time. Continue to show usage and solid payment history, and reapply at a later date.

I think that because many on the board have received large CLI's at 90 days or 6 months, some may take that as an expectation that this will happen for them too. Not always the case -and you have a young history with Discover. Credit granting can be unpredictable. Time will help.

????? Don't want a hand out....Have put 22K throught the card in 5 months. TU of 773...8% util...no baddies. Was speaking of disco handing out thousands of dollars in cli's through the recent gravy train...as well as rewarding many whose acccount life was less than 3 months, with little use, and so so ficos with large Cli's...

Yours truly just happened to be one of those unlucky, but well posted about few from 2013 that had to wait an entire 18 months+ before getting a FIRST! sp cli. Patience seems to be the key on some new accounts.

I would reiterate the same comment that was shared by baller4life above.  Regardless of the CLI frenzy back a few months back, an item to keep in mind is that this forum represents only a small percentage of all Discover carholders as a whole.  The data points, while helpful, did not transalte into everyone receiving a CLI.  Likewise, you can't really expect extraordinary results by comparing your profile to others since no profile is the same.  Just the way some lenders work.

I don't know about Discover's algorithms, but my guess is that balance transfers count far less than other purchases.   Presumably, an ideal customer would be one who regularly put large amounts of spend through the card, getting the swipe fees, and of course if they also paid a little interest, so much the better.    So while I presume you paid some balance transfer fee on the $18K, it's not a sustained purchase stream that guarantees them future riches!

Also, I have been putting about $15K a month through the card and once the CLI gravy train stopped, they gave me a massive $500 CLI.    It really all depends on your CR, and whether they are willing to increase their exposure.

after reading through this thread i thought why not give it an try and discover just gave me another CLI, I don't know if it has to do with me putting lot of spend on amazon this quarter to get the 5% cashback or not.

i know how you feel i was pretty salty about them not giving me an CLI when i first got my discover card. My TU fico was in 790-810 range at the time. I was like you are are softpulling my credit every month to give me an TU fico :-( You just need to have some patience, that is the only real advice i can give.
