Hello Everyone,
Im debating whether I should apply for an AMEX platinum card and could use some advise.
Here's a quick rundown of my situation. In 2002 I filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy and AMEX was included in my list of lenders. Since then the BK has fallen off my credit report and I've been diligent about using my credit responsibly. All 3 scores are currently above 780 and my debt to income ratio is around 20%. (this includes my mortgage and auto loan)
Has anyone been in a similar situation and been approved?
I've been told AMEX is unforgiving of past transgressions. I'd hate to use an inquiry if I know they're going to reject the application because of my history.
Thanks in advance.
Worth trying. If blacklisted, no HP. You might as well find out if you are blacklisted. Also, if backdating does not happen on its own, I would not risk asking for backdating. I have seen people who should have been on blacklist as for backdating. When they found old BKed or deliquent account, their account got cancelled. But others have no problems.
If you are blacklisted and are willing to pay back old amount, you could contact them for their oasis card.
Hi Lexie,
Thanks for the feedback. Will AMEX disclose if you have been blacklisted?
Thanks,
Adrian

Not specifically. I believe denial letter will refer to it. The easiest way to see is that you get denial but no HP on credit reports.
What does HP refer to?
I for one would be interested to see if they approve you (I have a friend who is in a similar situation and we have discussed the prospect of him being approved)
I think you do have a chance given your current scores and ratio etc.
Then again, if the amount was large that you BK'd on....well I guess you won't know until you app! Best of luck if you do it.

Welcome to the forum. With the information you've given if you are blacklisted there will not be a Hp.
Edit: Amex does have a long history but some have been successful
+1
No harm in the attempt at all. If your blacklisted no HP if approved you'll get HP'ed
Good luck should you apply
I agree with the other forum members. Only way to know is when you apply... You may not get an instant decision or may sit in pending for a few days. Eventually, you can check the status of your application if approved. If declined, then the decision/letter can be disclosed online to provide you the reasons.
