Redstone ditching Rural King Visa to UMB Bank

I received a letter that effective March 22, 2024 my Rural King Visa will transfer to UMB Bank.

When I first got the card, it was 5% cashback at Rural King.  I haven't really used it since they changed the reward structure to 2% at Rural King,  so the switch actually has me curious if UMB are going to go with a different reward structure.  Maybe the card will find a new life again.  Smiley Happy

The letter mentions that if you don't want to make this switch, you'll have to close your account and pay it off prior to the deadline.  So it doesn't look like they're planning on keeping anyone on and switching them to a different Visa card.

The Rural King Visa was an easy way to get in with Redstone Federal Credit Union.  I guess that will no longer be a viable method soon!

Interesting. Haven't received that letter yet. I may have used the RK card once since I got it. It will likely stay sock drawered after the transition unless there is a significant change to the rewards structure.

Re: Redstone ditching Rural King Visa to UMB Bank

I received another letter today about the Rural King card switching from Redstone FCU to UMB bank.  Now it shows what the new rewards will be, and they're going back to 5% cashback at Rural King (and RK Guns).  It will also have 3% on gas, groceries, fast food, and dining.  However, the rewards may only be used AT Rural King.  Smiley Surprised  After reading the rules at UMB's website, it looks like the points that you earn on the credit card are transferred to the Rural King loyalty rewards program that they already have.  Then whenever you have $5 worth of points, you get a $5 reward to use on your next purchase.

The fine print says:

"You may continue to redeem your Rural King Harvest Rewards points for statement credits, deposits into your bank account, gift cards, or charitable donations through 5:00pm CT on March 21, 2024.  On March 22, 2024, the cash equivalent of  your unredeemed points will automatically convert to rewards which may be used only on purchases at Rural King locations.  We will share additional information on our website as we progress through this transition period together."

So if you have Harvest rewards that you haven't redeemed yet, you might want to do it before it switches.

And also:

"Card program participants will automatically receive a $5 reward for every 500 points earned.  Rewards are automatically issued within seventy-two (72) hours of meeting the qualifying point threshold and may only be used at Rural King store locations on qualified purchases.  Certain exclusions apply.  See the Rural King Rewards Program Rules located at umb.com/RuralKingVisaRewardsProgramRules for complete details."

I was initally pretty happy to see the 5% cashback at Rural King come back, but if I can only use the rewards on future Rural King purchases, that does make it a bit underwhelming.  I'll probably still use it, and take money off my next order, but I'd obviously rather just have straight forward cash back.

This all won't happen for another 3 months, so I'm sure we'll learn more between now and when the new card becomes active.

Interesting had the card at one point was kinda of an impulse as was within their geo being redstone, but jumped on it anyways then wondered why about a year and a half or two later and closed it out along with account at Redstone which was kinda silly as card came out being dining card of course like two months after I closed it or something like that.  That stinks have to use rewards inside RK although i suspect if using 5% at RK then one would shop their enough for using rewards kinda like Best Buy Visa, etc

They sell farm supplies like feed, horse fencing, even tractors.  But they also have just a normal pet section where I get cat food sometimes, and horse bedding actually works well as cat litter.  They also sell car batteries for a pretty decent price.  And they have a gun counter where I've gotten ammo and firearms before.  I'll also sometimes get tools (they sell hand tools and power tools like Dewalt) there.

I guess they have a lot of what you might use on a farm, even though people without a farm would use a lot of it too.

It's kind of similar to Farm and Fleet if you've got those near you.  I suspect that it's a fairly midwestern chain.  I can't imagine seeing one in California or Florida or something.  Smiley Happy

knew they sold firearms.  So basically like tractor supply as never been in one of their stores being rural king.

Rural King is like a giant, wonderful Tractor Supply with a gun dept. They are usually located in old K-Mart or vacated mall buildings, so they are huge stores.

This transition will be interesting because I had a $8.5k charge off to UMB bank 15 years ago. We'll see how forgiving or forgetful they are I guess. I was hoping Redstone would issue one of their Visas in it's place.
