Rent notify issuer first?

I would like to pay my rent on my CC to get miles or cash back.  Since the largest balance on any of my CC has been 1100 (which is from several transactions) and my rent is 1500, is that something I need to call first to inform them I am going to use my CC so it is not declined?

I'm just trying to show more usage.

thank you!Smiley Happy

Re: Rent notify issuer first?

Depends on the issuer. Which card are you trying to use?

Re: Rent notify issuer first?

As long as you have available credit to cover it, you should be fine using your CC.

Either my Quicksilver or VentureOne card (used to be a platinum MC)

Cap1? You should be fine. Smiley Happy I just bought some airplane tickets on my Venture, which was about $900. Way larger transaction that any I had previously done. Cap1 didn't even flinch.

Re: Rent notify issuer first?

Airline tickets are usually coded as such, and CapOne expects large transactions there.  Rent (esp if from a private individual) is not always that way.  Depends how it's coded.  Maybe the landlord or holding company also owns a pizza joint and runs the cards through that account.. Could be problematic.  I can't even get Citi to approve $400 at Family Dollar but they have no problem with $2k other places.  It all just depends.

Re: Rent notify issuer first?

I had to call in on a 400 dollar purchase at nordstroms when I used my Barclay card. Sometimes abnormal card activity causes the flag to go up.

Re: Rent notify issuer first?

I just got my Venture a few weeks ago. With the 3K spend requirement I wanted to pay my $3200.00 rent payment and knock the spend requirement out right away. I called Cap One to ensure it would go thru and after verifying some information, the girl said she noted the account. The following day my rent went thru without a hitch and I immediately saw almost 47,000 miles on my Venture account. Cap One is AWESOME.
