Recently Citibank closed an AA branded credit card I had due to inactivity but reopened at my request. My question is will this "re-opening" affect applying for another AA branded card in order to get a bonus. Bonus points arent awarded if if you’ve opened or closed any personal Citi / AAdvantage co-branded card in the last 24 months.
I would think that the argument could be made that allowing a card to be closed due to inactivity could be viewed as you passively 'closing' the card in a manner of speaking. It probably comes down to how hard nosed Citi wants to be about that subject.
Interestingly, Citibank would not give me any info on the date of opening associated with the closed card and directed me to the credit bureaus. I did check with Creditkarma and the original open date (1990) showed. So that's good!
