So to keep it short, I apped for the PRG with the 50k bonus offer and was instantly approved. I added the card to my online banking after I got the email. Received the card in about 5 days but it arrived opened so I requested a new card to be sent. The new card arrived the next day (very efficient).
I used the card that day and it worked fine for large purchases but as soon as I bought something at a gas station, the card was declined. Called customer service and was told to talk to the fraud dept. They said they needed to verify my ID so I need to go to a bank and have them fax a form which then needs to be signed and notarized and faxed back. I told them I have done this before for other cards but they needed it again. So I go to a bank and have it done.
It now has been 4 days and I am still waiting for the verification to be approved. I have called many times and I get the same answer, which is to wait. What should I do? I want to be able to use the card.

I think you need to give us more infomation about the large purchase, amount and type of transaction (i.e. paypal) to help you.
The large purchase was rent. I do not use Amex for paypal.

If they have requested it before, what was the reason given for your previous cards? They may have you flagged in their system.
Last time the reason was the same. They needed to verify my identity just like this time. Which is odd given the card was issued and was working fine both times until it gets blocked and then I have to go through this humiliating process.

Maybe you should asked them what is causing this problem so that you can get it resolved once and for all. Since, you like their cards you can't escape this unfortunately. The only solution will be to stop applying and using their cards if you had to do this - verification for all your cards.
There is a high chance if you apply for another card after completing this verification, they will ak for it again.
I did ask them what is causing this verification to be done again when I was told it would be only once for my lifetime last time. The reply was a cold "I do not know". They wont even tell me what 'fraud' is causing this. I have never had this issue with any other lender.

Curious...you paid your rent with AmEx, how much was the fee on top of the rent?
