Requesting Barclay card arrival CLI

Hello! I'm new to the forum.

I applied for the Barclaycard Arrival last week and was approved with a 10k limit. I want to request a CLI because I'm about to make a purchase that exceeds the limit, and I can't break it up into smaller purchase over several months. I searched the forum and google already and have a few questions left.

Does it help if I cancel another cc and wait about a month before I request the CLI?

Would it be a hard or soft inquiry since i just got the card?

Some more info: My TU score from Discover it was 791, have no idea what the other 2 scores are. My credit util is definitely <10%, avg account age is 4-5 years. The card i'm thinking of cancelling has a 13 month history and 15k limit. I have 2 HI from january and 2 this month incl the barclaycard.

Re: Requesting Barclay card arrival CLI

I believe it will be a HP based on all my interaction with Customer Service

Also, the Arrival card is NPSL. Theoretically you should be able to make a purchase over the limit, provided you pay the overage in full, plus minimum payment before due date after the statement cuts.

I haven't used this feature yet so others may be able to chime in better.

Re: Requesting Barclay card arrival CLI

Is the card you're thinking of cancelling also Barclays? Either way, if you call their Backdoor Number for credit analyst, they are generally receptive to requests as long as you dont have numerous other new accts. Worst case, like Lhcole said you charge the item and immediately pay off the amount over your limit.

ETA:  Sorry Lhcole, I always get you and yudeology mixed up for some reason.

Re: Requesting Barclay card arrival CLI

thanks for the replies. I guess I will call them about the NPSL. I called earlier today and the rep said any charge that's over the 10k limit would automatically be denied.

The card I'm thinking of cancelling is chase sapphire. I think the barclay arrival is a little bit better (for me anyways). It's my first mastercard and barclaycard, so I can't backdoor it. A lot of my past cards have been NPSL, but I get the feeling that after a certain amount of cards relative to income, banks will set lower limits. That's also why I'm thinking of canceling the sapphire.

Re: Requesting Barclay card arrival CLI

I dont think closing the Chase Sapphire is going to impact anything with your Arrival card. In some cases of having multiple cards with the same lender, they will move around the limits at your request but this isnt the case in your situation.

If they say the charge will be denied, you could request CLI. If that is denied, then call the backdoor analyst for reconsideration. Just explain you want to give them the upcoming charge, but the limit is restricting you. I would not close the Chase account.
