Just another option. I looked for a stay this weekend and a Westin was $170 members rate and it was $179 Rockmiles w/ 4k MR. I think I might book w/ Rockmiles for this quick stay.
You really need to price things out but I'll take 4k MR and 537 UR points over new Marriott points for this $179 stay.

So you are earning MR from booking through Rocket Miles, then on the actual cash payment, you are sure it posts as Travel on CSR? And you are sure the Marriott points are not earned for the stay?
Rocketmiles uses Priceline on their backend. Marriott points will not be earned on any stays booked through it, and any elite perks will most likely not be honored. Most of the reviews I've read have been pretty bad, especially when it comes to room types not being what was booked and customer service when things go wrong. I can't answer the question about how it codes for Chase.
You do get 3x ur for travel but no Marriott points. But for a quick 1 night stay I'll give that all up for the 4k MR for 22x and UR points for $9 more. How much can they screw-up for a one night stay and if they do no big deal, down the street is a Holiday Inn Express, lol!
I'll give them a shot for this one and how bad can a Westin room be? SPG gold w/ 19 stays this year, I don't think they will give me a hard time anyway.

The funny thing is you get more Marriott points w/ a tranfer than you would w/ gold status and using a Marriott/SPG card. Only thing you lose out is a night for status and late check-out (SPG gold) doesn't offer that much.
Looking forward to the resulting data points. 4K MR by itself is indeed a good reward.

Crap, not all travel is created equal. I thought travel was travel and this was the first time I didn't book direct. I'll get 1x UR point, still not bad.
NRB, thanks for the heads up, that is why TOC should be looked at periodically.
Well, we have to keep perspective. The point earnings on Category spend, whether UR, MR, TY or Altitude are only incremental. You still get the one point in the program if the coding doesn’t work out quite right.
